Hooking up Sony PS-LX300USB - No Sound! HELP!

I'm embarrassed, but I just got my first turntable from my girlfriend. It's the Sony PS-LX300USB. I'm attempting to set it up but I get no sound through my speakers. I can hear the record playing on the player (very faintly) but nothing is coming from the speakers themselves.

Since I am new to having a turntable in the first place, I have no idea how to set this up properly so I'm hoping you can help!

The speakers are SONY SRS-ZP1000.

Do I need a DJ mixer or something? Can someone give me a step-by-step for getting this thing up and running?

Thanks!

On the back of the turntable there is a switch right next to where the audio cable comes out, make sure it's set to "line".

I've got it set to line now, but still no sound through the speakers.

Can you describe how you have them hooked up?

Sure, I have the output hooked into an adapter (to be able to plug it into my speakers) and then into the speakers. I tried to embed the pics, but the forum wouldn't let me. Thanks for your help!

The adapter is: 3.5mm male to 2 RCA (Red/White) Female (which you can find on Amazon) and allows me to plug the turntable into the headphones jack on the speakers.

Does this help?

That's what I assumed was going on, but it's easier to ask you to describe. That sounds about right, but is it possible that you've plugged the turntable into a headphone out on the speakers instead of an input?

Also you'll need a few more posts before you'll be able to post pictures or links, i cannot remember if it's 5 or 8 before links.

I could be wrong here, but...

...something tells me that you need some kind of amplifier or receiver between the turntable and the speakers.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't realize that one myself... I was in an output. Switched it and now I've got sound. Sometimes it's the little things...

Thanks again for all your help!

Hey guys. I stumbled upon this forum as I am having trouble setting up my turntable. I am hooking it up to a stereo system that has AUX inputs in them. This is how I currently I have it hooked up. These are the cables from the back of the turntable. Anything missing? Any help would be appreciated.

You need a phono preamp between the turntable and that AUX input.

Hmm. Thought I wouldn't need it since the turntable has a preamp already. I'm new at this so correct me if i'm wrong.

You did not state you had the turntable listed in the thread. You need to set the switch to line. If you get no sound then the turntable does not work.

I figured you knew since that is what this thread is about. I have switched it to line earlier. Thanks for your input!

I just received one of these turntables as a birthday present and I am trying to get it to work. I am using in on a Windows 7 laptop and cannot get any sound from the speakers attached to the computer when the USB cable is plugged in. The speakers work just fine when the turntable is not connected but as soon as the turntable is connected I get no sound output to the speakers. I can see the sound level bars moving but no sound. I cannot connect the RCA jacks to anything as the laptop does not have anything to connect them to.

Follow these instructions and don't forget to click on the meter.

Open control panel, go to sound and open, you will then see a window that shows playback devices, set the usb/sony as default. Of course, be sure you have downloaded the driver or it will not show up in the list of playback devices.
