I think i'm going to upgrade to the Marantz 5006 and then in the future if I require an amp I can upgrade from there.
However I will certainly keep a close eye on ebay at Amps

See my last post. I think a good amp like one of the Quads I mentioned is a mandatory part of your budget, given your musical preference.

I should caution you that laws for neighbor nuisance form sound systems is draconian in the UK and through the EEC. If the police get a complaint, they are entitled to confiscate your entire system and you have no right to a day in court.

I understand you usually get a few warnings, but with repeated complaints your system is gone for good.

Oh really? I'm clearly a bit slow on the uptake, will the 65w of a Quad 303 be sufficient?

I live in a student city with 4 universities so we get quite a lot of slack with respects to noise and drunken activities fortunately.

Yes, it will be. They are rated very conservatively. The output stage has triples. That is to say there a three power transistors for each rail, so six power transistors in each channel.

If you are an apartment dweller a Quad 303 will be perfect.

We also have a small town home in Eagan MN, a suburb of St. Paul.

I drive my speakers with two 303s, but one is just driving the built in isobarik coupled cavity subs. It has plenty of power and reserve for that situation.

You can see them here, my crossover is next to the amps. I think you get the picture, that I'm not a receiver fan boy.

That is apparent, yes. Right now, nor am I. Plus I have heard only good things about finding old amps in good condition. I am looking forward to finding one and never having to rely on this crappy receiver for anything useful ever again.
I presume this onkyo receiver will still act perfectly fine as a crossover?

Yes, the receiver will be acting as radio, input switcher, decoder of digital sources, preamp and crossover. Hopefully it will do that much for you for a few years. I can absolutely guarantee not forty though. It will have polluted some corner of the planet long before that!

That's fine by me, as long as it lasts a little wihle that's all that matters. I can upgrade to something actually useful when I have some money.

What is your budget for the sub and how big of a space are you trying to fill with deep bass and infra sonics?

For DubStep with the feel of an underground venue, you'll need subs the same size. Dual 18 inch subs are in order.
