Fried DLP?

I ordered a bulb and 3 days later found out it was backordered. I haven't had time to jack with it and now it shows that it will be delivered next wed. I will keep you guys updated. Thanks for the help.

Woo-hoo! I can get a new job as a projector repair technician...

Good to hear your set is up and running again. What always blows me away is how much better a brand new lamp typically looks. You don't notice the dimming over years of use, but upon replacement, you should notice right away how much brightness was lost.

About 4 years with a ton of hours. I would say the thing is on 10 hours or more a day. A lot of that time is with the screen saver on, since it runs when we listen to music. I am going to change my remote to leave the display off when we listen to music via the AVR server and just use the small display on the AVR.

Yep, it was so bright that I had to turn down the settings, we were seeing too many zits on the girls on American Idol...

Now my light engine seems to be going out. 7 whites stars on the screed at all times. Looks to be a common issue and an expensive fix. Think it's getting replaced with a plasma this time.

That sucks man, how old is your set? I have a WD-73733 bought in Dec. of 07, and I'm just waiting for my light engine to go. I'm still on the original lamp, and hopefully it will last a while longer, but I'm already saving up for a replacement tv.

I don't remember exactly but I bet it's 5 years old or so.

It's such a shame they don't last longer than that, especially for what they cost back then.

99.% of the time, it's the blub causing the problems in a DLP. They just don't make them to last....The other 1% is usually going to cost you $$$ in parts and labor and a lot more than a blub.

Yep, I want to say I paid $4000 or so back then, still makes me sick that you can get one for $1200 now.

The bulb seemed to get me a full extra year out of the set but I'm not going to dump another penny into it at this point.

I didn't get the Diamond series tv, just the lower end model and it's been decent despite it's few minor issues. But I'm just waiting for it to go out at anytime. But I've seen the 73" dlp go for as low as $700 for the low end model and it makes me sick too, especially sine I paid $2500 for mine when I got it, and that was a good deal on it then. For that much now I can get a nice 70" Sharp Aquos LCD which will give me much better picture quality.

I'm up to 37 "stars" now. The wife says I can't purchase a new display right now but I'm going to.

What do you do with a 73" DLP? Is there any value to it at all on the used market?

I have the 73" Mitsubishi also. What are the "stars" your talking about? I guess I'm lucky, I paid less than $2000 out the door with a 5 year warranty's and 1 bulb replacement. I don't think I have near the hours you did, in fact mines been off for over 2 months.

It's a light engine failure. About 1200 bucks to replace.

Which is ridiculous seeing as how you can get a brand new 73" Mits. DLP for under $1300. I hate how these tv's are disposable, they should last longer considering what they cost.
