Hi guys, just finish my project, a7 with onkyo 609 and wanted to add an Integrated Stereo Amplifier for my stereo. I've audition it with rotel ra 1520 and cambridge 650. I prefer the rotel but before I buy any recomendations? or brand in the same price range. Thanks mwah! A7s are bright sounding for me and i want it to be toned down.:D

You aren't going to tone them down with an amp.

There is all sort of idiocy surrounding using an amp to 'tame' 'bright' sounding speakers.

If the speakers are bright for your taste you simply purchased the wrong speakers. Return the speakers. Get your $900 back. Take the $700-1000 you have for your integrated amp and you have your entire budget.

Now take the $1900 you have and get a used high end Denon 4K or Yamaha RX-V 2K series and spend the remaining $1600 on speakers that are to your liking.

It's about the speakers.

For me, neither. If you must take one for some reason, then I would suggest the 650 that has better specs overall. Neither one would give you more power than even the 609,for 2 channel applications, in fact the 1520 will likely give a little less. As others suggested, the Denon 4XXX, such as the 4311 will do much more for you.

Why the heck are you purchasing speakers that sound overly bright to you? I really can't pay attention to your amp choice with that hanging out there.

If they really are bright for your tastes: You are buying the wrong speaker.

Lets have a conversation about speakers that may do a better job for you. Forget about the backing electronics. You have the cart before the horse.

Seriously, what Jinjuku said is very close to the truth. You're asking us whether you should put 91 octane or 87 octane in to get your Jeep handing like a 350Z.

Hey thanks for the input. I auditioned 609 vs 1520 volume is ok for both but 1520 sounded way better thats why im interested.

These two statements are inconsistant - so which it?

If the speakers are too bright or you don't like them, get different speakers. If you're happy with them, then there's no issue.

As everyone has told you so far, it's the speakers, not the amp.

I have heard my paradigm mini-monitors on 5 different amps, of which 4 sounded exactly the same. I'll give you a hint, the 5th didn't sound better. If you want a new amp, get a new amp, we're all guilty of wanting nice things just for the sake of it sometimes. On the other hand don't think it'll have a huge effect a character change in speakers you're not happy with.

If you are sure about that then go for it. I have no reason to believe the 1520 could make it sound better but that's me, it is yours that counts.

Okay, if I'm understanding this correctly, OP has a budget of +~$16-1800 given that he's taking $1000 speakers (1150 $MSRP) and adding a 1000 MSRP amp. Am I correct?

To the OP, I recommend considering KEF Q900, Philharmonic Audio 1, Soundfield Audio M1, and Ascend Acoustics Sierra Tower. Each of these speakers, even with your "lowly" Onkyo, will be a significant improvement, plain and simple.
