What amp to use with JBL L890's?

You are full of ****. That h/k 645 at 75 wats of Real power per channel at all channels driven will beat any 100-130 watt denon, Yamaha, or Onkyo. I done lots of blind testing to prove it. Plus. JBL and H/k sound great together.
Could I have a little cheese and mustard with that bologna sandwich, please? ;)

But I digress. JBL sounds great with LOTS of receivers. Floydian, find a mainstream (e.g. Yamaha, Onkyo, H/K, Denon) 100 wpc or better receiver that you can afford and it will push those efficient L890's just fine. Congrats on your speakers.

Seriously, I have no life.
... When you activate the Logic 7 then your jaw hits the floor.
I wasn't there, I have no idea how rigorous your protocols were for the comparisons.
But, since it appears that you may have compared different processing capability, not the amps or modes that are comparable like stereo only, or DD, who knows how you can compare Logic 7 to something else? Perhaps it alters the sound totally? Perhaps its levels are different enough to impress? Lots of factors could make a difference that may not have been properly controlled.

but each channel of denon or yamaha is capable of 130wpc
each channel of the 645 can do around 75wpc

the yamaha/denon might not be all channels driven, but I'd say they were more dynamic than HK simply because they have more power output before clipping.

HK's claim that their 75w is better than 100wpc of denon's or yamahas is just as guilty of false advertising. in fact, it shows me that they think I can't count.

97, 98, 99, 75
Hehe
Yammy , yep :) . Put a old NAD vs a new yammy in 2 channel , even try some Klipsch Hersey bars for a speaker and see what the results are . ;)
Its funny how somethings never change :) .

I got pioneer vsk 1121 K for a great deal. I plan to pair it with JBL's L series. If I get L890 for which the continous power rating is at 125 will it work with this receiver?
The receiver specs say -
Power Output Per Channel(20Hz-20kHz,.08%THD@8ohm) 110
Power Output Per Channel (1kHz@8ohm) 120

L890's are at 8ohm and 125 continuous.

I am planning on 7.1 setup with
L890 as front left and right
L830 as left and right surround
L820 as rears.
LC2 as center.
ES250P as subwoofer.

The room size is 29 X 15 X 9 (height). Front speakers would be by the 29' wall. Cannot have it against on 15' walls.

Looking for suggestions/corrections? This is my first HT setup.

The JBL 890's are really nice speakers with a sensitivity of 91db (somewhat high). I'd recommend you buy as much power as you're able to. 250w for each or more if you can. They can handle peaks of 500w each, so bi-amping a 250w multi-channel amp would be ideal. (FAR MORE speakers have been damaged because of not providing enough power, and then allowing them to clip continuously, than from too high power. Go with the additional power.

Hey came across this in my search for receivers currently have the same speakers as the OP JBL L890’s. I currently have an onkyo tx-sv7m found some info on it but am new to the whole audio realm, was curious with this setup your take on it? Worth it to keep this setup as is? I feel like it’s too much power at times. Or sell this model and look into something else, friend has a marantz 2015, I know this would be way to low at like 15 wpc, but wasn’t sure what other marantz I could look into?
Thanks!

How would passive bi-amping with a 250wpc amp equate to 500w peaks?

Better to have more than enough power. Hadn't heard of your receiver, but on looking it up (from 87) seems to be a moderately powered amp and should work fine with your speakers; if you want modern features/connectivity then that would be a reason to change. I wouldn't go backwards with a 15wpc amp section like that old Marantz has, tho....
