Insignia NS-LCD20 Problem

I'm at it again with another broke POS. I posted in the Insignia Forum only to be told to take it in which I don't want to do so I'm going to take it apart a little later tonight. If things go like they did on my last repair you may get another picture of my dumpster.

This was actually a TV I borrowed and it blowing up in my hands cost me lunch. That part's not too bad a deal and I was able to use it to run YPAO. I think if I fix it I now own it.

Sounds like those insignia guys really want you to take it to the Geek Squad like they're in cahoots or something...

Permission to post something off color on their forum??? :D

Yeah, permission granted. I'm done there. Chances of me getting any other Insignia gear fall squarely in the snow ball's chance in hell category.

I opened it up and disconnected the remote control ifrared reader.

So far so good. No pic's though.

I never borrowed the remote so this might work out good. :D

Alex, Did you really expected a competent answer from best-buy personnel ?

Adwik - Their "smilies" are as good as their "service"

(quotes pun intended;))

About same chances as me getting another LG :D

shameless plug:
Speaking of monitors - I still got really nice NEC 20" 1600x1200 IPS LCD screen for sale - I'll make a jedi discount

p.s.s: Nec doesn't have component inputs, only vga and dvi (but I think HDMI->DVI cables are available)

I looked at that monitor several times to use as a monitor but money is a problem while I'm not working. The problem with HDMI to DVI is that the monitor in all likelihood lacks HDCP compliance. I know this from my first HDTV and I actually have one of those cables. It's from my early days in AV. I spent close to $100 for that Monstrosity ... only to have it not work because of HDCP. I'm still a little pissed about that.

theoretically only, there are analog component to vga cables... thou really not sure if they'd work

I went back into the TV to actually remove the part. I'll see if the Insignia support team is going to help me beyond telling me to pay Geek Squad. Here's some pic's.

The serial # and model #:

The remote sensor in the TV:

The remote sensor removed from the TV:

The TV working like a charm without the sensor:

This is actually all I needed it to do.

Congrats - this was an easy fix :D
I tried going to Geek Squad to get a new part. They (a snot nosed punk) told me they don't do that. I said, "You don't fix Insignia TV's"? He said no, they send them out. I asked where. He said We-ville Kentucky. Isn't that like outsourcing?

So they can't sell me a $6.95 part but they can ship my whole TV to the part. I got the number for the place in We-ville that has the part ... if it's still available.

The TV is in limp mode but that's actually good for me because the guy who owns it is unlikely to ever want it back now and for what I need it's perfect. I'm going to call this a win.

Oh, yeah ... between Insignia, Best Buy, Geek Squad and that forum I got absolutely zero f^%&ing help and I'm happy to share that with anybody who'll take the time to listen.
