Do you remember a simpler time when there were no computers with Internet service full of information? You actually had to leave the house and go to a library to check out one of those Encyclopedias. If you were lucky enough, and had the money, your parents might purchase a set of books from Encyclopaedia Britannica to enrich your learning experience.

Is there a broader implication here that public libraries will become obsolete or replaced by online equivalents possibly saving taxpayer dollars?

Maybe, but there is a lot of information to archive still. The Cloud should help with that.

Well, the whole waiting a few years for an update is kind of what really killed printed encyclopedias.

People go to libraries now to use the free internet....

People go to libraries now to use the free internet....
After 11 years, I finally went to the library that I drive by everyday on my way to/from work - because I had to go there in person to get a library card so that I can download audio books from home. :)
