This is probably more about vintage equipment than really latest bleeding edge equipment...

Does anybody know whatever happened to Celestion, in the 90's they were making quite incredible bookshelf speakers using technology that I don't even think anyone today is matching or surpassing at comparable price levels... I listened to the chief designer at Celestion that time who went over to Norway to talk about their strategies and how they made their speakers and this was and is very interesting.

The cabinets were made using what was called Aluminum aerolam honeycomb made by Ciba-Geigy, the reasoning being that cabinets where made very stiff and strong and at the same time very very light to minimize energy storage and in addition using foam inside the honeycomb to increase damping; Another side effect of these things were that resonances were made so high in frequency that they made much less harm, as they were out of the critical midrange area...

I auditioned some of the Celestion in the 90's I believe we talk about Celestion SL600si or SL700, or perhaps it was some other models, I'm not sure if I remember correctly, the SL600si were John Atkinson's reference speakers for many years and when you see what other kinds of speakers he was using, this is truly exceptional because the Celestion's were not really expensive.... (the SL600si was only $2K at that moment in time, including stands)

I think of them as some of the best value speakers I ever came across, still regret that I didn't buy them back then...
Does anyone know or have any idea if some of these ideas and technology is still around somewhere?

I even suddenly got a wish to think of second hand SL700's if it's possible to find....

Looking at measurments olf SL700, the tweeter rings like a bell with an incredibly stong resonance, you can see the same in the SL600si, so I'm not sure how well they measured, but sound, oh so nice....... I could not really hear this tweeter resonance at all.....

I have the Celestion SL6- the first serie. All I can thell you is: this speakers is my favorites! Really high end speakers with amazing sound, natural&neutral, very well balanced. I still look about the SL600, SL600si , or SL700 for my second system but is very hard to find this models.
