Though I'm new to HT, I thought it might post my rudimentary system of second hand gear and partially diy speakers.

Just the basics w/ older stuff set in our town homes' living/dining room space. (Surround speakers sit on kitchen pass-through counter behind living/dining area.)
Rig:Yammie rxv659, Denon dvd1930ci, DIY SEAS froy3 (L/R), Vienna Acoustics theatro (C), JBL control1 (rears), Sony 46" lcd
I like the way the tv stand wood matches the front speakers ,and the floor for that matter.

I also think the bright white blinds would be distracting to me for daytime viewing,I would go with a darker colored window covering.

you can get white wire channel at home depot/lowes for those rear wires. Shop Wiremold 5 Ft. Ivory Wire Channel at Lowes.com

but very nice clean room for sure.

Thanks for your compliments Dan. Now to clarify your concerns.
The blinds are not distracting w/ closed. The photography style makes them grow to look brighter than reality.
The surround speakers are temporary so the dark speaker cable is emphasized. As mentioned in an earlier post, I eventually will get better rear monitors which will be placed on Target Audio speaker stands that I already have. Thanks again for your input and I hope this clears up your concerns Dan.

I suppose ideally placing the cc on a speaker stand in front of the rack is best, but that would look quite out of place ...
If you put a nice telephone table somewhere ... anywhere ... in that
room I don't think anybody would even notice a little center stand. :D

I suppose ideally placing the cc on a speaker stand in front of the rack is best, but that would look quite out of place in anything but in a dedicated A/V room, an even then... The only other option in our space in on top of the rack w/ the tv on top of it. I like the current scenario best and it images quite well set at the leading edge of the rack. What you say?
I would like to see the center channel unobstructed by furniture and at ear level ideally.

I used a taller rack for my center channel in the bedroom to get it closer to ear level.

The monitor was mounted on the wall. Since you have a window, one would have to make some serious modifications to keep your system on that wall. Not impossible, but may cause you to rethink your system orientation. Obviously, you still want to keep the overall room dimensions in mind and retain a good seating distance\position.

Like I said, it is never easy. Just depends on your determination and the limitations that one can implement.

I actually sealed up a window in our primary room. No easy way to provide light control so the easiest thing to do was to seal it up. Sometimes the answer is not readily apparent. Creativity can be a blessing.

Just thought I would share some ideas. Thanks for posting and keep us up to date on your progress. We are all here to help.

Westcott, I like the way the system looks and don't plan on a taller rack or closing up the window to the back yard. It sounds quite nice even w/ the cc below the TV and tilted up. The sound seems seamless between the front 3 channels, especially w/ our low sofa for viewing/listening. The only change I may do for a short while may bring the Altec downstairs for the L&R speakers. I had it this way when I had a 2 channel HT and they sound wonderful for movies. I sometimes switch things around from time to time when I get restless.

OK I made the change. I put the Altec 15's into the HT system as the L&R speakers. These speakers always sounded best in a large space. They are also very easy to drive and sound effortless w/ the the Yamaha AVR. What is funny is that the Yammie receiver recognized them as small speakers on the auto setting, probably because the of horn HF drivers, so I had the change the setting to large. The Altecs do go lower in bass register than the speakers they replaced, though a bit lighter. All-in-all the Yammie did a nice job EQing the speakers and there is greater drive too.:)

The DIY SEAS Froy 3 speakers now are now upstairs and these excellent audiophile speaker sound great in my other 2 channel music system. They always have sounded great with the tube amp. And I'm still keepin' an eye out for a TT that strikes my fancy for that system as well. I used to have a Thorens TD125 mkii turntable/SME 3009 arm/Stanton 681EE cart and wish I still had it, but it is unlikely I will spend the money they go for these days.

Here is a photo of the system w/ the Altec Lansing Model 15 in place. I've decided to keep the SEAS Froy 3 upstairs in the 2 channel music system and put the Altecs up for sale and use the proceeds to purchase Vienna Acoustics L/R speakers (Bach Grands, Haydn Grands, or a pair of Theatro) to match the Theatro center channel speaker.

More changes to this my 2 systems. Sold the Altecs and put the HT back to its original configuration. And I'm selling off the music system in the other room, so the tube amp is now gone with the Mac C37 preamp and Sony ES cdp still for sale. Looking to assemble a compact system for the bedroom.
