If I had a real need for HDMI 1.4 I would be inclined to purchase it. As it is, 3D is not interesting to me and reducing one optical connection coming from my TV just so I can use Audio Return Channel with HDMI....well it's just not worth $599 to me.

The R-972 is full of excellent high end features such as the Reon upscaler and Trinnov. Combine that with a very capable on-board amplifier and excellent preamplifier performance it's a super value.

Too bad this AVR didn't have Dolby Volume as well, otherwise I'd probably buy it.
I am still thinking about it, with the Reon chip. I have had some cheaper Sherwood's in the past,
and liked them - almost as much as Marantz.

Wow, that's a good price. And Curt Hoyt from Trinnov seems to be actively supporting users, even if Sherwood's people are AWOL. (Jeff Hipps, who stewarded this thing from concept through production, is now with Theta I think.)

Had these been available at this price when I was shopping, it would've been a hard choice between the Sherwood and the Anthem I ended up with.

But this one does not have networking does it ?
How does it stack up against f.e. a Denon 3312 ?
