Will 2 subs work on a 7.1 receiver?

Just wondering if I can use a y cable to split the signal from the receiver to two powered subs and still work? Or do I need a 7.2. Thanks

The Y connector will be just fine and no different to the 7.2. The LFE signal is mono no matter how many outputs they put on the back, they all have the same signal.

I was actually curious about this myself. In a native 7.2 receiver does it give you any advantage like being able to calibrate each sub separately or something? Or is there literally no advantage?

Depends on the receiver!
My Yamaha RX-A2000 does have individual settings including individual Parametric EQ adjustments.
Some receivers are just a mono sub signal with the Y-splitter inside the avr.
But using a Y-Splitter from monoprice or even RadioShack will work just fine!!!

Shouldn't be an issue.
I tried to EQ my subs separately but failed to achieve good results when both were played at the same time so I had to give up and do them together.

Which makes perfect sense. That would be like trying to EQ speakers one driver/woofer at a time...
