I am jealous. I can't get a toy car until my wife gets her convertible Mustang back. It was traded in on an SUV when it came time for kids. I don't miss getting it unstuck when she screwed up on ice.

I've spent time in DFW. The stockyards are interesting to walk around as mentioned. Plus you can pay to get your picture taken on the back of a longhorn. If that interests you at all.

The aquarium is pretty cool, but crowded on weekends.

You sure can get some good Tex-Mex food down there though...

I don't like the DFW airport. It's a PIA to get around and to get your rental car.

Still jealous... but then my wife is set to inherit the FIL's white 1966 Mustang with 289, 3 speed manual. Wife can't drive a manual.

If you like fried chicken Rudy's in the ghetto is the stuff of the Gods.

If you like steak you can't really go wrong at any steak place downtown. The same goes for texmex. If it's busy it's good. If it's empty is reservation only or it sucks. BBQ requires a drive normally for the good stuff, but brisket is solid pretty much everywhere. Again look for the crowds of Texans. For example Rudy's is a hole in the wall cash only place with a line that goes into the street.

Manuals are always good - mine can't drive one either. Somehow I managed to get her to promise that we could get a fun car before any childrens are discussed. Don't ask me how. We will probably be selling the 1970 Mustang that her grandpa gave us so she can park in the garage though... I was thinking one of these instead but I don't think that is a battle I am going to win.

I like cows...and pigs... I think it would be a crime to eat chicken with only one day spent in Texas. So on the BBQ... where's the good stuff? Any of it west of Dallas, like on our way home?

Rudy's chicken compares to homemade southern woman chicken. It is no sin to get some for the road. It tastes great cold too.

Most of my favorite joints are in Central Texas, but Cousin's BBQ I've found to be good. Angelo's is pretty famous. Off the Bone in Forest Hill is supposed to be good. The Rudy's(BBQ) in Arlington is not like the good ones in Austin.

There used to be an amazing place in Abilene, but unfortunately it closed. The best BBQ I've had is in Lockhart at Kruez's Market, but that's way out of the way. I prefer Oak smoked meat, hickory is the wood of choice in DFW.

I've only had it catered lol. I simply don't eat a lot of BBQ around here. I confess I'm more of a fried chicken fanatic than a BBQ man. That said I will have to go to Angelo's and try it out.

Mmmmm...chicken fried steak...I want to go to there. I used to have a quest to find the best one out there. I had one so good in Fairbanks, Alaska that I stopped looking. Perhaps it is time to return to that quest. Back then, I was young and could only handle the one quest. Now I can multitask and find the best BBQ and the best chicken fried steak! The only problem is back then, I could eat whatever and not get fat. I still eat whatever, but...

Rudy's Chicken is in the hood. Just an FYI and there is no place to sit. It is a literal hole in the wall. Rudy's BBQ is a chain BBQ with no relation to the chicken shack. You don't really need to drive to Austin to get the best BBQ there are numerous places with good hickory smoked stuff in DFW. Besides Lockhart isn't exactly in Austin(long drive). Brisket is universally amazing up here. I've not had bad brisket in this area. Steak places are numerous and normally very good.
