I have a chance to purchase for $50 a used Pioneer VSX-820 receiver. Only problem is it does not power up. Do you think it is worth the investment thinking it may be an easy fix?

No. With the price the 521, 821, and 1021 have been going for lately, you can get a brand new one for between $140-300. Just my opinion.

Agreed. With the way most receivers are and have been for many years, that could be an expensive problem _ more expensive than buying a working receiver.

That's like buying a car cheap whose only problem is it won't start. Unless you know why it won't start to begin with, you could wind up throwing away a lot of money only to find out it wasn't worth dumping all that money into it to begin with.
