I really need some help have a panasonic plasma 50s30 mounted over fireplace with all wires going thru walls(2 hdmi's only use one, and full component wires and 1 toslink not being used) from receiver ( yamaha rx-v471) dvd,blu ray, cable box all hdmi to receiver all work 100%.
Now tried to hook up PS2 and Wii for my daughter and I got completely lost
all with component connections and toslink for the PS2 audio, nothing seems to work.
I need a real step by step help with this connection to the yamaha preferably using av-1, av-2 on the back etc.
It's driving me nuts!
Thanks in advance

I'm too lazy to look up the manual, but I think that receiver will not do analog->hdmi conversion. Are you switching the input on the display from the hdmi input to the component input?

I don't know how he has connected the PS2 to the receiver and TV but he should connect the component cable and the optical to the receiver and should go to the receiver's menu and tell the receiver which input he's using for the component video and also assign one of the optical inputs to the component input so he can have audio and video.

The receiver will not send composite or component video to HDMI out. You will have to use the component cable from the TV and connect it to the component out of the receiver.

Use AV1 for the PS2.

This dongle or an equivalent, will let you plug the Wii into an open HDMI input using a standard cable.

hook up game consoles

I tried it again last night, I have the wii in av2 component for video and the audio to the audio in, ps2 goes to av2 component for the video and av2 also has toslink which i am using, when i switch back and forth on the receiver between av1 and av2 the video is fine but the sound is the same for wii and ps2.
In my simple terms the toslink has taken over the audio portion no matter which av 1 or 2 I select.
I am not assigning something correctly in the menu on the receiver or somrthing else.
I am not very tech savy, so bear with me on this !
Thanks for the help so far.
If I use the dongle will the toslink still take over the audio portion and leave me with the same problem?
Thanks

Yes Sir
That is the rx-v471 yamaha
follow me thru this please
component out to tv from monitor out as well as hdmi
av1 has the ps2 component for video, toslink for audio
av2 has wii component for video and the audio ( red white ) goes to the audio under the monitor out connection into the audio ins
as per yamahas faq on how to hookup wii etc.
When I do this the toslink produces audio on av1 and av2
Thanks
