The film industry doesn't care how you watch at home. They want you in the theater, since that's where they want to make money. For home, as long as you buy it, they don't care what you watch it on.
If the shift to OLED does actually come about, I think that could be a factor as well, since I think it will be easier for them to gear up for a different ratio as opposed to the existing setups for LCD already. I am actually a fan of the even wider aspect ratio, so I wouldn't mind, but I am not sure if enough of the public would agree. It is fine for movies, but what about TV? Broadcast would also have to accommodate that ratio with their shows.
