My goal is to play video files from my tablet on my Plasma TV and hear the audio on my BluRay surround sound player.

Equipment:

Acer Iconia W500 Tablet
Phillips BluRay hts5100b_f7
Panasonic Viera TC-P42X3 plasma television

I am playing downloaded files on my tablet. I have a hdmi cable to my tv so I can watch them on there. Currently the sound comes out of my built in tv speakers. Is there a way I can rig it to come put of my BluRay surround speaker system?

Welcome to the forum!

There sure is a way to get sound out of your Philips, and it'll be easy. You can connect an optical audio cable (like this one, and they are available at a lot of stores) from the optical audio output jack on your Panasonic TV to the "OPTICAL IN DIGITAL" connection on the Philips.

If you have any questions about how to get that working, just let us know.

Well I got the cable and connected it from the TV to the Philips but the sound is still coming out of the TV. I tried to find a setting on the Tv or Philips to change it but to no avail. Any ideas?

Hi - give me a couple of minutes to check out the manual to get the right menu setting for you. Be right back.

Alrighty, let's see if we can't get you up and running.

On your Panasonic, check out page 46 of the owner's manual (the PDF version is linked here if you don't have it handy). You'll just want to go into the audio menu and turn off the TV speakers by setting the "TV speakers" option to "Off."

On your Phillips, press the "Source" button repeatedly until "Aux" is displayed on the front panel display (there might be a direct way to select that input, but that's what the manual says to do on page 16).

Give that a try. If it doesn't work, let us know and I'll look deeper into the settings on the Phillips. Nothing stood out to me when I looked through the manual just now, but I might have missed something.
