$400 dollar range AVR suggestions.

I know you guys get asked this alot but anywho...

Trying to decide between the Marantz NR1402 and the Denon AVR-1712.
Im going to be mostly using this for music as I seldom watch tv. Hooking up to the tv is a must though for sporting events and movies.

I just purchased Energy RC Micro 5.0 for $150 off newegg for my speakers and I plan on getting a Velodyne VX-11 Sub.

Im not sure yet if ill hook up my pc via toslink or hdmi so I can listen to my flac files. I dont care about airplay or Ipod connectivity. Im probably going to get a turntable later on down the road.

Any thoughts between these two?

Those are both good candidates. But, check out the Yamaha line also. They have been stepping it up lately. You'll probably have to experiment with the PC hook up question to see which one works.

I was going to enthusiastically recommend the Yamaha RX-V667 for $350 brand new on Amazon, but then realized it does not have Phono inputs for a potential future turntable. For some reason, Yamaha removed this feature from the North American market midrange receivers.

Oh well, worth a mention anyway.

Can you give me anymore insight on that? Why wouldn't a optical fiber connection work?

Ill get a phono preamp to go with the turntable.

The room equalization is probably the biggest option driving the products and the DAC.

I also forgot to mention ill have a headphone amp hooked up as well. If anyone has anymore thought into which product I should get it would really help me out. Perhaps I should pony up a bit more cash on a AVR? It sorta seems crazy to have a receiver that's 3x the amount of speakers.

I also recommend the Yamaha RX-V667 as it has pre-outs and the newer model does not, if you shop around you can find them cheap as they are last years model. I have one and love it. Good luck

p.s. I got mine for $299 at Newegg about 3 months ago.

Stick to Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, and *gasp* Onkyo and you should easily find one within your price range with your features. Also the last year Pioneer models are going for CHEAP right now and are pretty good according to the owners on this forum.

The Denon 2112 gets my vote. You can get it for 450 shipped if you call Electronics Expo.
