Hi All
I am looking to buy a good 3D blue-ray DVD / CD player to connect to my LCD tv and Harman Kardon HK3490 2 channel receiver. This receiver does not have HDMI imputs. I am not into all that 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. I prefer the 2 channel (front speakers) with a sub woofer for my sound. Right now i have a Panasonic blue-ray player connected to the receiver via optical cable and have my TV connected to the blue-ray player and Cable box via HDMI. I get great sound and picture watching DVD movies (concerts) and just listening to CD's. But after reading some post on here i am wondering if i am missing something? Here are some questions i have.

1. what is meant by: Multichannel analog audio outputs on some DVD/CD players?
2. Should i be connecting my DVD player directly to my receiver by composite video cable? What benifits would i have since i have sound and picture already?
3. If i were to buy the OPPO 93 player what is the best way to connect to my system for best sound and picture?
4. Am i wasting my money buying the OPPO 93 player because i only have a 2 channel receiver?
5. If i have a 3D DVD player and 3D tv why would i need a 3D receiver if i don't want 5.1 or 7.1 sound?

Thanks for any input on what i am doing right or wrong.

You have everything connected perfectly for yur current usage as it now stands. I doubt you'll realize any significant difference by going for a new BR player. Multi-channel audio outputs are useless when feeding a two-channel receiver.

1) it means the player has outputs for all audio channels and does the processing itself. As mentioned, for a stereo setup this doesn't benefit you.
2) Composite is the LOWEST quality connection available, so just switching to HDMI should net you a HUGE benefit in picture quality.
3) It is a solid player, though if you intend to use composite video, you are definitely going to be wasting your money.
4) No.
5) You don't.

It is BLU-RAY :)

Thanks for the reply's. The only reason i was asking is because i wanted to upgrade to a new DVD /CD player that plays Blue-ray 3D and is WIFI ready. I am looking for a good player that plays music CD's and music DVD's as best as possible using a Digital Audio Optical or a Coaxial cable to the receiver and using a HDMI to my TV from the DVD player. I understand now why the Multichannel Analog Audio outputs won't do me any good with a 2 channel receiver. Everyone seems to favor the Oppo 93 as a good strong player from what i have read. Not sure it's what i need but i am looking for a good player.
Does anyone else have any suggestions on a good DVD/CD player that cost less then the Oppo 93?
It must be a Blu-ray 3D player, Be WIFI ready and play DVD's and CD's the best possible. must have a digital optical or Coaxial connection and HDMI.
I really am not into the slim line players like the Panasonic DMP-BDT210 as they are to small to fit in my rack properly.

How about Yamaha, Denon, Samsung, Marantz or LG?

thanks again

Be careful with "Wi-Fi Ready"

Read the fine print. That generally means you need to puchase a separate wireless dongle to avail yourself of the "wireless" feature.

As for Panasonic, I bought a Panny DMP BD-85 in 12/2010 and it died (MC Analog Output problem) 10/2011 while still under warranty. So far they have sent me TWO replaement refurbs, both of which had the exact same problem.

I'm about to send back the second replacement and try for a third. That'll be about $70 for shipping back three bad units.

After that, if this one doesn't work, I'll just have to man up and accept the fact that if thais one fails, they make cheap junk and no BD-85 will do MC audio correctly.

Once a Panny fails, you're boned, warranty or not.

Also, look carefully at the back of whatever units you consider. Some newer units don't even have red/white analog outputs anymore. Now, if you were feeding a newer AVR (or TV) with HDMI, you would never miss it, which is what "they" are counting on.

While you're at it, don't take for granted they offer digital outputs either. This is the era of HDMI, which, to me, is The Mark of The Beast in this hobby.

That sucks. I've been using their inexpensive DVD players and BD players for years without issue. To me, they are so inexpensive though that if it dies, I will be fare more likely to just replace it than try to get it repaired. A $100 player is almost not worth paying the shipping to fix IMO. I am not saying we should think like that, because I expect my electronics to last a while, but if I get 2yrs out of a $100 player, then it is decent and there is usually a replacement with new features by then anyway. If I had the same thing as what you are saying happen, this would definitely have been the case. I have had my BD-65 without issue for over a year. My Oppo I paid a LOT more for, so that one I expect to last a LONG time :)

For sure, if this matters to you. It is often the less expensive ones that tend to do this to save cost, but is definitely something to check for.
