Problem with my display

Hello Everyone
I just recently came across this forum and I really enjoy the wealth of info here.I thought I could seek some advice about and issue Im having with my video display. The problem is most common while watching blu rays.I tend to get blue lines that appear on my tv.Narrow horizontal lines that appear at random. Many times during a scene that involves lights like headlights or someone holding a flashlight, the image has a halo effect.Seems like when a bright image is displayed on the screen it usually has this halo or ghost effect around it.I changed the HDMI cable from my Marantz 7002 reciever.I also just purchased a new tv and the problem stayed after doing that. That surprised me for sure. The only constant has been my Marantz.Could that cause this issue? It doesnt prevent me from viewing,it's just irritating.

I would bet you have a ground loop. How is everything grounded? If you have cable or satellite disconnect it and and see if the problem goes away.

Your satellite could be causing it, if the grounding block is not grounded correctly and tied in to your house ground within 20 ft.

You could have other grounding issues also. That is why we need great detail of your system, like how and where your TV grounds, which units you are using have two or three prong AC plugs.

Sorting this out at long range is difficult, and as I say only possible with the greatest detail from about your system.

Here is an update on what I did this morning concerning my issue.I disconnected the satellite where it comes in from the wall. This didn't result in any change.Next I unpugged the HDMI also from the satellite. No change either. The last thing I tried is very telling.I have an OPPO blu ray player.I took it's HDMI cable from the back of my Marantz.I then unplugged the HDMI out cable from the reciever that connects to my tv.I replaced it with the HDMI from the OPPO.All I had hooked up was the blu ray player straight to the tv.The OPPO is plugged into a surge protector. This didnt resolve my problem either. No difference at all.Could the ground problem be with my main wiring in the house on that circut?I eliminated the reciever as the culprit.Brand new Samsung tv and the OPPO is new also.Seems like the main wiring has to be the culprit.

Probably not.

Now I have to tell you there is not enough detail here.

What circuit is the TV plugged into? Which units have three pin and which two AC plugs. This issue is vital to helping you.

If I were a betting man, I guess there is more than one unit with a three prong AC plug.

Any time you have more than one ground in a system, a ground loop can be created.

Here are some details on my system.
Samsung TV-2 prong
Oppo-2 prong
Marantz-2 prong
Dish box-3 prong
All of the above components were plugged directly into the wall individually.I went ahead and put them all on power strip today.

Powered sub-2 prong.Plugged into the wall directly by itself

Seiki blu ray player-2 prong
Roku box-2 prong
The above two components were both plugged into the wall individually.I put them in a power strip today also.

The only plug I had with a ground was the Dish box.Now I have two since I utilized the power strips.Everything is plugged into the same wall.Should all be on the same circut.Does this shed light on anything.

So basically you have two grounds, the Dish AC plug and the ground from your satellite system

There is possibly a third. Is your Roku Box getting its steam via wireless or Ethernet cable?

Now I would get an outlet tester at Home Depot and make sure the live and neutral is not reversed at your outlet.

Next what happens if you pull every input from the back of the Marantz? Do you get lines going across the screen? TV connected to the Marantz by one HDMI cable and no others. There should also be no cables going to the TV from any other unit other than the Marantz.

If not, then plug each input in to the Marantz individually. Just one unit connected to the Marantz at a time. You should have only the HDMI cable going to the TV, and no other connections to the TV for the test.

See if all, or only some of the peripherals cause the problem.

Please report back with the results.

Unfortunately your only ground is the Dish DVR which has two grounds. This is not an optimal situation.

The only cable going to the tv is the hdmi out from the Marantz. No other connections.
The Roku is wireless.
I pulled each hdmi and just got a black screen. No lines.Plugging them back into the reciever one at a time had no impact.
I will bring a tester home from work tomorrow and check the outlet as you suggested.
The overall image quality on my set looks great. It's just the scenes that contain a bright image that gets distorted.I see it mainly while watching a blu ray. It's much less noticeable while watching a tv broadcast.
Let me thank you again for all you're help.I do appreciate all the advice.

I think you have now excluded a ground loop.

By all means check the outlet.

What TV was your last one and this one. May be it is the TV's. Low end TVs cab cause this problem. If the outlet checks out, you need a TV of much higher quality.

My current tv is a Samsung 60" led un60d6000.My last set was 50" Panasonic plasma.
I really hope I find a problem with the outlet. The room is a fairly new addition so who knows?

Interesting.

I can understand the LED having this problem, but not the Plasma.

I would change the HDMI cable to the TV in case there is data corruption.

If the outlet checks out and a new good quality cable does not help. I would take your TV back and tell them it is unsatisfactory.

At the end of this investigation, if the last two lines if investigation prove negative, then it has to be the TVs. There is no other explanation.

I would try and change the LCD if you can for an up to date Plasma, like a Panasonic Vierra.

Changing the hdmi cables was my first thought.I did that some tome ago.I have another tv I can hook up to my system.I would be shocked if I actually had two bad tv's.Trying the third set will be interesting.

Then if the outlet checks out, it has to be the TV,s. There is no other explanation.

What you are describing is a very common defect in TVs.
