Well it's not 7 figures but it's definitely a lot more than $40,000. Like i said to her, I'm not taking food out of your mouth, our daughter's or our retirement. Only one life to live.....
And yes, I am looking at the Concept turntable.
Definitely a lot more than $40k suggests that her reaction may be quite reasonable.
I used to be poor, and then my wife would have been upset (justifiably) for me spending money the way that I spend it now, if I had done such a thing (which I would not). It is all a question of balance and proportion to what one has, not the actual amount spent. I personally would not spend $6500 on an integrated amplifier, though I have more than that invested in my systems. Of course, if I had a 7 figure income, then I would not worry about spending $6500 on an integrated amplifier; I would buy it if I really wanted it. But at my actual income, I would not do it. And I would be buying speakers first, not the amplifier first, just in case I ended up with something with special needs. Right now, my main stereo has speakers with a nominal impedance of 3 ohms, and so I purchased an amplifier rated for such use. They are the best sounding speakers I have ever owned;
too bad they are not made anymore.
Anyway, for a $6500 amplifier, you should be planning on spending quite a lot on speakers. There is no sense in paying that much for an amplifier to use with cheap speakers.
