I'm trying to put together a system from existing components and could use some advise from experienced HT folks. I have a Panasonic TH-50PX600U plasma tv, a Yamaha DSP-2070 amp., a separate Yamaha RX-v670 receiver that I use as a tuner and to power to outside speakers by the pool, a Sony PS3, an NAD 5100 CD player. Speakers are B&W Matrix 3 fronts w/ a B&W center channel and sub and Paradigm Atom surrounds. My main concern is all components except the TV and PS3 are non-HDMI. Will I need some sort of interface to get the most out of the pic and sound, or will non-HDMI cables suffice. I do have good quality component cables as well. Also, will the PS3 handle all my "disk" needs and can I forgo the CD player?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. We're having cabinetry built and I don't want to build shelves for components I'm not going to use.

To get the most out of it I would update to a modern receiver given your equipment list.

The best your receiver can do is Dolby Pro Logic so no discreet decoding of 5.1 or 7.1 material. It's not even really a surround receiver. Nothing about your surround experience is going to be maximized. There isn't even any room correction.

Component won't do you a lick of good since the receiver has only Composite Video in. You are stuck with SD sources only.

Your speakers represent a good deal of $$. Not sure why you wouldn't have a receiver that is both respectful and representative of their potential.

I appreciate the input. Not so sure the DSP-2070 is disrespectful of the speakers though....it's an excellent amp from a prior era. It just can't do the latest and greatest in digital surround. I was just trying to see if I could keep it and still have the benefits of modern processing circuitry.

I have a great nostalgia for vintage gear. Especially passive electronics like amps. But for me nostalgia ends with active stuff because for the simple reason it is a computer of one sort or another they have no business where a modern setup is desired which is what you have.

I'm sure the DSP was great for it's time but it's time has passed. Plenty of $1K and under receivers out there.

Yea, sorry about the dual posts. I'm a first timer here and wasn't sure where to start the thread...
