I recommend skipping the amp you have planned for later, and buying a better receiver.

XPA-5 $900

Your receiver prices posted $550-$750

That is $1450-$1650

Plenty for a Yamaha RX-A2010.

That is a very nice receiver but i dont realy need a 9.2, my current room is too small for that.
The RX-A1010 sounds like a nice 7.2 receiver.

Just because it has 9.2, doesn't mean you have to run 9.2. The AVR is the heart. I did the whole buy the cheaper receiver and add an amp thing. Then, just purchased a better receiver later. Waste of money.

Do yourself a favor. Buy a top-shelf AVR. Forget about adding EMO. Folks here have that mess blown all out of proportion.

Yeah your right about that.

I definetly have a lot of research to do, but the pioneer elite vsx-53 sounds interesting.Usaly retails at 1499,99$ is currently on special half price.

I still have a few days to decide what i realy wanna buy.

Zumbo is pro yamaha and for good reasons.:D You seem to like the Pioneer due to price so how about split the difference and go Denon AVR-4311, 4 ohm rated (so they claim), has preamp mode, Audyssey XT32 and many other goodies. Rumor has it that you could pick one up for as low as $1,200 when on sale.

Ive actualy never owned a pioneer receiver so I dont know.

Ive had a denon receiver before and loved it, is there a big difference between the 4311 and the 3312 If so can you explain.

4311 - Audyssey XT32, much higher resolution than the XT version, individual sub EQ (there are two subouts), 4 ohms rated, 11 lbs heavier, preamp mode, and more. You can visit their website and compare.

Thanks for the link,

There is quite a difference between the two but i think ill get the 3312 when it gets on special at fs.
The 4311 is ~ double the price once on special and considering my budget ill go with the 3312

I currently own the Pioneer SC-05 and tested a DENON 4311 against it. They sound more similar than different. The DENON did sound a touch tinny.

The room correction for both units performed about the same. My setup is years old and I have spent a lot of time tweaking to try to get it just right. (Being an engineer I can’t help but obsess.) My sub has a built in room correction and did a superior job when compared to the Audyssey. I did feel like the Audyssey had some more to give, but to really tweak (or get obsessed with every nuance) it required buying a custom kit that is a little expensive. This is a side note since Pioneer doesn’t even offer a similar kit.

I didn't think either product was different enough to justify switching one for the other. I bought the SC-05 on sale and already owned it so I returned the Denon.

Anthem has made some highly reviewed receivers that might fit your budget. They have the ARC room correction which is the most configurable and also complex. ARC performs better than Audyssey and MCACC (Pioneer) in my opinion. If you need more power, you can add a separate amp. (I have been looking to add either an Anthem or Parasound HALO amp to my system to help out with the dynamics.)

He's looking at AVRs in the <$750 range and "possibly" adding an amp down the road, which makes more sense then doubling the cost of the AVR for only a modest gain in power.

The HK 3600 has a great amp and the preouts for later, easy to setup. It doesn't have the features of the Pioneer. But really how many DSP modes do you really need?

What the HK does have is independent crossover for all the channels, unlike the Pioneer and Yamahas which only have a global. Global is fine if you run 5, 7 or nine identical speakers.

That's a good choice. The 3312 is very feature rich. In terms of sound quality, room eq such as Anthem's ARC, Yamaha's YPAO, Pioneer's MCACC, Denon/Onkyo/NAD's Audyssey, some people will tell you one is better than the other but really they are offering their own preference/opinions base on their own perception, hearsays, reviews read etc., not facts. What are the facts, I don't think we know and I doubt any differences in sound quality between the units mentioned are enough for us to worry about.

I did the buy the cheap AVR add an amp thing already. It doesn't compare to just buying the top-shelf AVR up-front. There's a lot more to it than just gaining modest power.

I am pretty sure the 3312 has separate X-over setting capability too. Even my old 4308 has that feature.

It's only 26.8 lbs!
I know, just a couple of lbs less than the more or less equivalent Marantz SR7005. The 3311 and SR7005 apparently share quite a bit of contents. I am not saying the Denon has a good amp section (being light) but I am saying it has a good feature set for the price. The RX-A2010 would probably be a better all rounder though unless the OP prefers Audyssey to YPAO.
