I've had a few drinks and was reading the forum while listening to Placido Domingo and all of the sudden got the urge to look at Macintosh gear. I've always been a fan of integrated amps and out of nowhere ordered an MA7000 for $6,500!!!! Luckily she doesn't have to work and I take care of her kid (my stepdaughter which I absolutely LOVE). I'm sure when she sees the new green meters and my smiling face she's gonna know something is up. Since she doesn't work all it takes is a simple google search and I'm TOAST!!!!!

I'd recommend being open and honest with her... you better tell her the meters are really blue...

Good luck with that, my wife already said no to Emotiva gear cause of the looks and the size!!. I am still working to convince her :).

I was actually super surprised when I told her. I asked her if I had a lot to drink the night before. She said yea. I said I must have cause I ordered a $6,500 integrated amp. She looked at me and laughed. O well, you work hard. I smiled and told her how much I loved her. I'm gonna be drinking more often from now on. :D

I think that every guy on this forum just fell in love with your wife.

:D

Btw, congrats on the new amp! I'm sure that I'm not the only one who'd like to see pictures of it once it arrives. :)

How much did your speakers cost? Google tells me that they could be around $1200. $6500 for an amp to drive $1200(don't know if that is per or pair).

Grab a SPL meter (whats $170 when you just dropped $6500). Match output to your current amp. Throw a towel over it all have have your wife pick out Sixty Five Hundred dollars 5 out of 6 coin flips.

It's all well and good but money is better spent on speaker upgrades.

Sure. Match output. Here, take 8 cylinders out of the Ferrari so it's output will be matched to the 4 cylinder Daewoo! You still using that lame reference?

It's played.

Pretty rude for a mod to come-in and talk-down someones $6500 purchase of a top-shelf component.

Well, I do think you need to match SPL to accurately do A/B testing. You're matching sound quality and loudness can affect that.

Last time I checked I'm allowed my opinion. I didn't talk down the purchase. It's most likely a great piece of gear. Maybe the OP is going to be getting some Revels or Wilson Audio. I would hope. Just commenting on the odd disparity of amp to speaker. In a community that is part based on best practices...

A watt is a watt is a watt. Is the watt from a McIntosh some how greater than a watt from a pair of Emotiva XPA-1's? While I have heard McIntosh gear I think their gear is priced according to their name vs performance.

Lol lol. You guys crack me up. NO. I don't plan on using the Mac with the current speakers. I'm going to be building a room just for my 2 channel system. I am going to be buying speakers for it. This system will take time to build.

I'd love to get a Ferrari but that won't fly. I'm happy with my BMW. :D

Got drunk yesterday for new years but not drunk enough to buy Wilson speakers. :p

O and yes, I did remind her of the RING. ;-)
