My Brother-In-Law called me yesterday saying he just got a new LG 55" LED TV and needs someone to hook it up. Hey, he's a great guy, always has beer, and his wife is a great cook, so how could I say no.
He has NO HD sources yet. He'll upgrade his cable Tuesday and in the meantime he has a DVD player with component outputs. Blue-ray to follow shortly.
Now, my question: Aside from an appalling lack of non-HDMI inputs, the picture seems "duller" and less defined than I would expect, even when playing a SD DVD. I've played DVDs through "regular" DVD players into both plasma and LCD sets and gotten a better picture, even with tweaking.
Is this typical of LEDs in general, or can it be attributed to the sources? ..or perhaps the set is funky?
The reason I ask this is because they have seen my 46" Toshiba LCD, many times playing plain old DVD's, and commented on the difference. Granted, it was through an unconverting player, but is the difference all that great?
thanks, and merry Christmas.
