Got a question, as I seem hard-pressed to find a good center channel speakers that can handle 200 watts or more.

I'm running a Sunfire Cinema Grand 5-channel amp (200watts x 5 channels), coupled with a Sunfire Theater Grand Processor 5

Fronts: Energy C-8's (375 watts)
Rears: Energy C-4's (200 Watts)
Center: Energy AC-300 (175 watts)

(Sunfire also has a "Signature Series" 5-channel amp that outputs 400watts/ channel....what center channel can handle that?!?)

I have blown my center channel's tweeter due to "over powering" the speaker twice in 2 years now.

Any suggestions/ tips/ experiences with mixing speakers brands and not "hurting" the sound/ imaging with using a different manufacture's center channel?

Also, can anyone recommend higher-end center channel speakers that can handle 200 watts or more?

Thanks to all...

Both the Energy RC-LCR and V-5.2-C handle "up to" 200 watts.

The V-5.2-C appears to have a higher sensitivity than your AC-300 (+3db) so you likely will back the power down slightly for level matching.

I use this cc-3wc center channel and bi amp with this Product Review and I drive my system hard and never a problem. That's 350 watts x 2 going into that speaker.

If you're simply trying to pick a center channel based on how many watts it will take, I'd probably go with a sub driver. :p

I honestly doubt you've blown the speaker with too many watts. Keep in mind that your amp doesn't just pump out 200 watts because it can... There's a lot of variables that would determine the wattage being continuously used... Either way, TYPICALLY, speakers get blown because they don't have enough wattage from the amplifier and when it begins clipping, the signal becomes too much for the speaker to handle. OR, you're just playing it too loud and exceeding the mechanical limits of the speaker-

What are your typical listening habits? Is the system level matched?

I gave this some thought and I come up with the same conclusion. I think you need more power to prevent speakers from blowing. 200 watts is good entry level power but I think you need a little more to keep speakers from blowing.
