Boston Acoustics

I've been looking around on here for quite a while, done some searching, and one big question seems to always come to mind. Let me preface this by saying that I am a Boston guy. I have been since I built my first system in high school. Currently nearly every speaker in my house is BA (with the exception of my sub and outdoor speakers), but reading on this forum is starting to make me wonder. I am sure that part of the reason I am so loyal to Boston is that they are all I have ever really known. They have always sounded best (for my price range) to me in listening rooms, and thus have always ended up in my houses. That said, I don't see much mention of Boston Acoustics around here. Is there a reason for that? Am I missing something? I speak mainly of their older speakers (10 or so years old)as I haven't really been a fan of what I have heard of their newer stuff. I hesitate to even ask, as I have a feeling there are much better speakers out there and perhaps my ignorance is bliss...

I don't know about their new stuff, but some of their older stuff is very good. I bought a pair of A 60 bookshelf speakers many years ago and loved them. Then they went into long term storage while I was overseas. When I unpacked them, years later, the surrounds had deteriorated.

I gave them to a family friend, he rehabilitated them with surround repair kits and they sound great once again! I almost regret letting them go . . .

I owned and enjoyed VR950 and later VR3 and loved them. They just don't get a lot of buzz and hardly anybody carries them anymore. I practically had to drag Best Buy/Magnolia rep away from the Paradigms that he was pushing like a used car salesman so that I could listen to the VR3s. Two years later I had the same problem when I wanted to listen to some ML speakers, according to the sales rep everything sucks except Paradigm. You'd almost think they offered an extra high spiff.

That said I don't care for their newer budget speakers. The V series were always excellent but I don't care for the Cs.

I have VERY limited experience with Bostons home audio speakers. But i did a lot of research on 10" car subs recently. I wanted a 10" that could go into a very compact enclosure. I wanted clean, quality bass not max SPL. Everyone steered me towards Boston. So i got a Boston G2 10", built a small sealed enclosure & I LOVE IT!! Its one of the cleanest little 10" car subs ive heard. Doesnt go crazy loud but thats not what i was shooting for.

So home audio im not sure about but i can vouch for their quality in both build & sound with my sub!!

I temporarily hooked it up in my wifes car. She normally runs a 12" Ported MTX. Even though it wouldnt get loud enough for her likes, she did love how much cleaner it sounded. She wants dual 10" G2s now ...GREAT!! haha

Boston is a world wide company - and they sell a lot of speakers world wide.
Why they are some what low profile in the U. S., is a bit of a mystery. All I can
tell you is, that the E series and VS series speakers - made the likes of NHT,
PSB and Focal leave the house.
The VR series is a good series - however the E and VS series, are in a different
league.

And what Boston speakers, have you listened to recently?

The most recent was a pair of CS26 that I sold a couple of months ago. I found them a bit muddy.

A bit muddy, and a bit thin in the midrange.

I use the older VR965's as main L/R, gigantic VR920 center, VRS dipoles as side, and the VR940 floorstanders as rears in my dedicated theater. I have swapped around a ton, and these set together sound phenomenal.
The new VS line is an excellent set as well, but, after hearing in comparison (in my room, not at dealer) they sounded no different with movies, but the VS336 outshined the VR's when it came to 2 channel and music. I continue to consider buying a pair as the secondaries in my main 2-channel system in my den (I use Magnepan 1.5qr's in there, but have a pair of Boston VR975's setup as "B" speakers for things the Maggies can't do, rock music, mostly)
