I just bought the same speakers as you, but with the ES1010iR sub that i am not going to use, but it was free!!! I will probably sell the sub for half price.

The whole set was $1400 as a black friday deal, check their site.

After some dithering, Finally I placed my order, and they are on the way, hopefully by Friday.

Speakers:
Verus Grand Towers, Verus Grand Center, Verus Grand Bookshelf: $3095

Sub:
Outlaw LFM1EX:
Processor:
Marantz AV7005, Both items for $1988

1. Do you think my existing amp Emotiva XPA-5 should suffice or I should upgrade that too? I read a review saying that the Aperion Grands dont sound well with a low-end amp? (though not sure if xpa-5 is considered low-end :)
2. Does the AV7005 has S-Video to support a VCR connection. I had understanding it does, but just read a review stating that it doesn't?

Amps won't matter.

If you like the Aperion or don't like them, it won't be because of the amps or pre-pro.

What else have you auditioned?

Congrats, maybe you should audition Aperion's and then let us know the comparison, Emptek vs Aperion, how if any significant difference there is!

I haven't auditioned anything at my home, sorry, my life isn't that settled yet. And auditioning at shop I think is misleading. Although I do have my old Polks (that I love) and Magnepan 1.6's (that I barely listen since somehow they cause a headache to my ears).

Your Emotiva XPA-5 will be fine for your VGT's. I hope you enjoy them, some have and some have not. The ones that have not are having to step up to $3-$5K range for Fronts.

Could you point to some nice looking but economical bookshelf stands for the 2 rears?

Depressed!

Guys?

I ... am ...

So I get my speakers today. I so excitedly open them, first the bookshelf. I unscrew my cheapo Polk RT800's and plug in the Aperion Grand bookshelves. Turn on my music, but not impressed with what I hear. RT's sounded better.

Frantically, I open as fast as I could the Grand Towers. I plug them in. I turn on my music. What I hear is bigger sound but muddier than RT's.

I dont have XLR cables at moment, so have to delay hooking up rest of the system till weekend (damn monoprice), but my excitement has waded.

WTF the reviews been talking about????:confused::mad:

I am sad, what should I do now? I am starting to think maybe the fault lies in my ears:rolleyes: RT800's are f@@king cheap, I got them as a h.s senior, and I want to badly get rid of them , but they sound sooo nice  Frustrated ...

Maybe is it the break-in, that I need to wait? or maybe f@@king go to a dr. and get a new set of ears!

I will keep on listening, maybe it was just a first impression glitch, and things might get better from here ~ ~ ~

Maybe I should stick with B&W 683's, those are only ones I'v felt better sounding than my cheapo Polks?
(my clumsy test setup).

It sounds like you want to like the Aperions more, but only because they have a bit more prestigious name brand than Polk in hi-fi audio. Well, you have to make a decision, what speaker actually sounds better to you or what is just a more respected brand in the audio community. If the Polks sound fine to you, I don't understand why you need to upgrade.

DenPureSound did not like them at all. He just sent them back.

Return them. Then try the NHT Classic Four from Amazon. If you don't like them, return for free shipping too.

Also try KEF:

We suggested the Philharmonics... though.
That's what I thought. :D

But I think he went with Aperion (like DenPureSound) because of the in home free trial.

So perhaps the 30 day return policy from Amazon is the way to go - try some KEF & NHT or the P362 from Crutchfield, which also has a great 30 day return policy.

Hi Litmu -- Re: Aperion VGT Towers --

WTF per the AH POY award for the Aperion VGT's, same here, not a great speaker at all -- we sent ours back as well.

It is not the cables, or AVR or Amp (EMO XPA-5) either, as my $500 per box Klipsch kicked their bu___ts. I was so disappointed and my wife said right away, send them back... it is not a burn-in Myth issue either. If they do not sound excellent right out of the box, they will not change their sound at all, they are what they are -- not good.

We noticed this about the VGT's:

Bottom end lumpy/thumpy with no tight control of the lows.

High end w/ the silk dome tweeter lacking big time for cymbals/crash/ride/triangles, we think it is because they crossed them over at 1.8kHz. and it is Silk, not P-Be or Titanium or Al/Mag, etc. They drop like a rock from 15-20khz. and are down around 6dB at 20kHz.

Threw some power at them, and they just went crazy with congestion/bloating, and got all crossed up w/in themselves, and lost all the details at higher SPL levels.

The only thing we thought was nice was the Cherry finish, encl. curvilinear sides/top, nice enclosure but not buying furniture, and the Mid-Range was Excellent, but for all the rest forget it... not a speaker my Acoustical Engr. wife wants around here.

So back they went, just like yours.

Take a Hard look at the Klipsch RF-7II Big Towers, at around $2200 delivered, that is a fine speaker if you like horns.

No free return on the Philharmonics, you buy them you own them. BTW -- knowing many now have the Phils out there, is there any just one owner that has done a review of them whether it is ok, good, great, or Excellent - let the chips fall where they may?

Aren't you in class studying M.E.? You must be taking a very small load w/ the amount of time you spend on AH forums, heck when I was in College I had no time but to study, work, sports, and G/F's.
