Well it is made from 1" mdf for the box with 2" mdf for the baffels... with bracing.
I know Ply is too expensive. But the weight difference is worth it for a sealed box IMO. A lot of people that would use sealed subs are apartment dwellers that move a lot.

If you had to choose between the two, which would it be?
You still haven't provided us your room size (if it's open to other rooms) , typical usage and physical limitations (ie : not bigger than 2'x4' )

Nice room. Pretty much any of the subs mentioned here will be perfectly fine in there, though I think you will need a slightly better than average performer because square and near square rooms tend to have worse bass response due to cancellation. You will likely want to consider room treatments.

You currently have a pair of Klipsch subs - right? Klipsch SW112 and SW110 ?

I think a Pair of Rythmic FV12 or a Pair eD A3 - 250 is what you want
Now to which one I'd pick - that depends on the shipping charges.

But speaking of Kits - Have you looked into CSS kits?

Dual SW-112's. They don't cut it.

I'm considering the SVS PB12-PLUS, but I'm scared to pull the trigger. Haven't heard enough info to make a decision.

Pretty much the manufacturers that will generally get recommended here are tried and true. Your chances of being disappointed are pretty low. A SINGLE PB-12 Plus will outperform your SW-112s, so duals should be pretty nice :) Your room is on the smaller side, and as I mentioned nearly square, so duals is probably a good idea. I'd give SVS a call and see what they recommend. They have always had excellent customer service.

If you are looking for safe bets, I'd definitely also look at the HSU Research VTF-3 MkIV.

For the current subs, have you tried co-locating them in a corner? Doesn't cost anything to try it.

No idea what the pricing will be like on these, but maybe contact Funk Audio about their 15" subs? They are a Canadian company, so hopefully you can get a more capable sub for your money :)

I had mentioned to the OP about Nathan in prior threads...if he doesn't know enough about Svs I'm pretty sure the same can be said about Funk Audio or funkywaves...;)

I've looked at Funkywaves, but I'm a little hesitant. If a company cannot maintain a proper website, what says they can maintain proper service with their subs either?

They use the best sub drivers in the world. One of their PR subs could do the job. Though you could also try a horn sub since you have such a large room.

Or how about a JTR sub?

Treatments certainly would help with overall performance, but treating sub frequencies is very tough to do and I recommend proper placement as a means of compensating. Placing the subs mid wall on opposing sides of the room will give the best response.

15x16x9 isn't a large room IMO; I'd call that medium.

Have you visited the new website? It's much improved over the last one...still a work in progress but a nice layout. As for your hesitation...I had the same apprehension at first but after I exhausted all my options...especailly here in Canada I opened a line of communication and he answered all my concerns...:).

You've got nothing to lose...?

It is very square though. I do think treatments are necessary. GIK Acoustics can help you get it right. I suggest you visit and fix the room before we go buying a new sub.

The OP seems hesitant about all of the subs mentioned and isn't going to get anywhere that way.

Agreed. The current subs might be adequate, but the room and the placement of them could very well be the issue as it is.

I understand those concerns, but website design has nothing to do with subwoofer design. Take Seaton Sound, for example. The Submersive is a very well regarded unit, and Seaton still doesn't have a proper website.

I had dual 12" subs that took 5 or 6 different placement configurations before finding a good one. For a while i thought i had waisted my $. Then i found that "sweet spot" & it was a complete night & day difference. So yes the OP absolutely needs to find the right location/s. My room has 1 REALLY good spot & a 2nd decent spot. So while he is undecided on which sub/s to buy he should start off with a bass crawl of course. This should get him headed in the right direction. Like mentioned this is 100% FREE!!!!

Once the spot/s are found he may fall in love with what he has or find out yes a new sub/s are in order. Im thinking one sub in front right & the other in the rear left (or vise versa). That is a guess of course. Or side midwall placement. Or stacked in a front corner. Thatd give the most output!!

What would your budget be?

SVS PB12 NSD $749
HSU VTF-15h $879
HSU VTF3 MK4 $699
Outlaw LFM-1 EX $649ish

To minimize square room effects id highly recommend the route i took. Get a good sub to place in a good location across the room to handle 50hz & below. Any of the obove subs would be great for that. Then add an HSU MBM-12 (mid-bass module) & place that very close to your seats. This will handle your speakers crossover point, ie 80hz & it naturally rolls off at 50hz. That is where the other sub would pick-up at. Being close to the mid-bass gives you incredible slam & the low bass waves have distance to breath & sound extremely smooth & powerful.

There is some debate over this way of splitting the bass but im a believer & it would be my personalmrecommendation to you.

If you are uneasy about buying an ID brand, remember, you have 30 days to return it if not happy. But trust us SVS, HSU & others are VERY good subs. Tried, tested & with experienced refferences. Besides DIY its one of your best bets!!!
