Thansk, I have seen that one, and also the Marantz S5004 there for $329. I'm really hoping to avoid refurbed again, but I guess my refurb Marantz has lasted better than the NAD. The remote knob went useless, but it otherwise works (just have to use the remote for volume).

Really hoping for a new old stock or something for $300 or less.
I bought a brand new in the box Marantz 5005 for $320 at Best Buy. Go to your local Best Buy and ask them if they have any left in stock. You may get lucky like I did.

I think you were very lucky to find one. I had tried earlier in the fall for a 5005 or 6005 but there weren't any new in box anywhere near here in central Texas. Only display models, and i didn't want to take that chance.

The Yamaha is brand new with 3 year warranty, and they are good units, but not perfect. They got rid of the 80's retro orange displays which I never liked.

I won't buy from best buy, goes back to them selling me open box speakers and the extended warranty on them......and then refusing to fix or replace the speakers when both were defective from the get go. They'd only offer a refund or new speakers that cost the same as what I paid for open box. In other words they sold me a $50 warranty that wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.

Also, my Marantz has been suspect at best. Volume knob broke early and the sub out I just found isn't working.

Exactly. I like the warranty, the alleged "higher quality build" of the Aventage and haven't tried one before (partially due to the orange lights haha). I don't think the 5005 seems to be any better than a A700 anyways, just whichever you prefer.

Just a quick note that then Marantz NR 1402 and 1602 models do have preamp outs for the sub and front 2 channels. They have enough on board to power surround rear channels. If you are not super fussy this can be a simple way of getting an otherwise full fledged receiver and still being able to externlly amplify for your music listening.
