Energy V-5.1 Bookshelf vs Verus Grand BookShelf

Has any one listened them both? After an exhaustive search around the net for the best price to performance BS speakers, I settled on these two in the Title. The main difference is silk vs aluminum tweeter AND price. 199 vs 299 each. And for use as surrounds, I would suspect, performance would be similar. I surmise the only reason for the V5.1 to be 33% cheaper than the GVB would be hype and clever marketing. I don't think there's 33% more speaker in the VGB to be had. Am I off?

Didn't you order the Versus Grand speaker package already? If so, why not match the fronts? I've not heard the bookshelf speakers, so I can't comment on that, but achieving a seamless timbre match would be beneficial I would think, especially if you listen to multi-channel music.

I just ordered the VG tower and center. I'm more after the theater experience. 600 hundred for rear fill was to much for me.And kind of overkill. I brought the v-5.1s for rear fill. Brought stands with the difference. And when I listen to music, its in 2.1. Its all about the front stage.:)

This past weekend I've been busy researching and researching and absorbing. So much so, i have a slight case of carpel tunnel. Anyway, I settled on the following

Yamaha A3000- ordered
AVG towers and matching center- ordered
Energy V-5.1 Bookshelf -ordered
SVS PB12-Plus DSP-orderd (wanted that rhymick 15 but no amps) :( owell

I will see how i did, when i get all the parts.

I think either speaker would be more than good enough for rears. If you were considering the 5.1s (which I see you already ordered) you should also consider the RC-10s for $300/pr :)

I saw those as well, but my goal was to get as close, or surpass the VGBs price: performance ratio.

The V-5.1 are likely not significantly different from the RC-10 in terms of performance. They have nicer aesthetics, and are tweaked a bit... but it's up to you if that's worth the extra $100.

Check out the Home Theater Mag review of the V-5.1/V-5.2C. The reviewer felt they could be a little sharp and unforgiving at times...

Now check out the 2006 review of the RC-10's from Soundstage... That reviewer praised how extended, yet smooth the treble is.

It would seem like the Klipsch/Energy design team might have voiced the new Veritas line to have a little more high end sparkle than the RC series... and my limited experience with the RC-LCR and V-5.2C would seem to agree with that...

When i get em, I'll give em a listen as surrounds and see if its a factor.

I gotcha. In that case I agree with alphaiii. Oh, and you did just fine with your system choice, although that Rythmik would have been pretty awesome.

I tend to agree with you. I am using some of the newer Energy CB-5's which can also have sharpness to the high end. So it does seem the new Energy's are gonna be brighter speakers in general.

Kinda sucks because my old C1's sound so much better in the mid and high frequency areas.

Why not go with the Versus Forte BS? Small, front ported, much more of a match.

Is this for surround duty? If so just grab a pair of Infinity Primus from harmanaudio.com. You don't need surrounds to match fronts. There is no justification for spending a lot on surrounds unless you have a very large room.

Just got my v5.1s in yesterday. They promptly replaced my axiom m3 v2s as mains in the bedroom. That's wasn't the plan. Definitely way too much speaker for rear-surrounds IMO. Like I'm sure the VGB would have been. I'm a try to do a small review / opinion on them in a few days. But i must say for 199 each. A person would be hard pressed to find a speaker with its specs, features, construction, and sound for such a low price..
