Congratulations on all the new hardware. I especially like the new A/V rack. You will have to give us a review of the Oppo compared to your old player too. I am glad someone's Holiday came early this year!!!!
P.S. Thanks for the laughs. I enjoyed the video.
Thanks! I made that video from older photos, so that was an early holiday...in 2009.
It was a heck of an upgrade, though!
That rack came from Best Buy, and it was a good deal at the time. I forget how much it cost, but something like $150, maybe. It's nice and sturdy, and I like the open-air aspect. The metal and glass are a nice combination. Contrary to what I thought, though, it actually isn't much easier to get to connections on the back of components versus my older rack, though.
I use the Oppo for SACDs and DVD-As. Since it's the first player that I've had that can play SACDs, there's no comparison. For DVD-As, it can send the signal over HDMI, and that is a huge improvement over my older Panasonic player that decoded the audio and sent it out over multi-channel analog cables (both in convenience and sound quality - a huge improvement in sound quality). As for DVDs, I can't see any difference in video quality between it and my Panasonic blu-ray player (DMP-BD60), and the Panasonic has a better user interface, IMO. One thing that I do love about the Oppo and DVDs is that it does a good job playing PAL discs and it was easy to make it all-region, so I can play some discs from the UK that I have (and also Japan, but those are NTSC).
Hmmm. I might just listen to some SACDs today...
