Samsung BD players vs Disney Movies

I'm about ready to toss this player out the window. More often than not when trying to play a Disney movie I can't get past the Castle screen, even after looking for new updates. With a three year old in the house Disney movies are in heavy rotation here.

Anyone else have these issues? I'm seriously looking at other BD players now, this is ridiculous.

That sucks, Matt. I've never had that problem. I'm sure that I don't watch as many Disney blu-rays as you do :), but I have seen a number of them. I have a Panasonic from 2009, though, so not a Samsung.

I've read online of others having the same problem with different models of Samsung (mines the BD-5700). Only fix is a software update, but there is none available for my player at the moment. I'm trying to play Loin King and it's just stuck on the castle screen for another 16 minutes.

Small consolation, but The Sorcerer's Apprentice is streaming on Netflix if you have that service.

This is a reason why I avoid Samsung. They tend to pack a lot of extras into their players, but then miss making the player actually work.

It's EXTREMELY unfortunate that you are running into this issue at all and I'm really sorry to hear about it.

I would recommend a Pansonic BD player any day of the week for pure reliability.

Thanks for the recommendation. I have an earlier Panasonic BD player up in the living room now. Besides the slow load times on it, I've had no problems with it. I'll take a look at the current line this weekend.

If you can afford a computer system for a BD/DVD juke. Run you about $500-600 total and then you could rip all your movies to hard drive and not worry about software compatibility with particular disc's and players.

** why are you getting BD of Disney movies. Your kid isn't going to care most likely.

The Loin King sounds like a porno...

Ratatouille no go with Samsung

I am having the same issue with Disney's "Ratatouille" BR and the Samsung BD-C5500. You are correct this is ridiculous!!

Thanks for speaking up, your post helped sort out the issue. I had previously viewed the disk on a Pannasonic (now in another room) and it did not occur to me that a newer player would have issues with a disk the older player did just fine--silly me, and shame on Samsung.

It is too bad, because otherwise the player is a joy. :(

Cheers,

I owned one Samsung player, a DVD player. It was well reviewed as being a good player. After ONE WEEK, I returned it because it had so many issues. Since then, I have heard nothing but complaints about their players and do not recomend them to anyone.

Of course, and I'm shocked it hasn't been plugged yet, you could get a PS3. :) Net prices around $200 again this holiday season ($250 for the PS3, but then you get a $50 gift card) - those deals come and go from time to time.

My Panasonic is slow, but reliable.
The new Panasonic DMP-BDT210 is supposed to be extremely fast. I have one I'm installing in the next couple of weeks and I may play with it some on some different BDs to see how it works.

I've been mostly using my PS3 for BD playback or my Dune to play BD ISO files.

I also have a Samsung 3D BD player - which I haven't used at all yet. And a Panasonic Blu-ray/VCR - which sucks.

Last nail in the coffin. Went to watch the new Harry Potter movie last night and the Samsung wouldn't play it either.

Going to Best Buy now and getting a new BD player.

Just a shot in the dark here.....
Is BDLive enabled?
My Panny BD player had issues with that.

I'm looking forward to which one you choose. Like I mentioned earlier, my Panasonic has been a champ. It's never had trouble playing any movie that I've tried.
