I got hit n run today. I don't know when, or how, but when I got home today, I noticed damage all over my front bumper including what looks like a big tire skidmark on the bumper and chipped paint.

I'm pretty speechless, and pissed off. What the hell kind of retard would hit a parked car?

Yeah, that's unfortunate. I've had people ding my car before while parked, and somebody nailed my sister's car in the past. No severe hit & runs though.

Luckily for myself it's nothing serious but what frustrates me is that people like this are on the roads every single day. A parked 98 malibu, big deal, i probably won't even get the damage repaired. But what if that were God forbid a pedestrian? I was googling info on hit and runs and i guess, silly that I am, I never considered that people are actually indecent enough to hit human beings and then run. Just disgusts me.

Man that sucks. My car has never been hit before, but everyone who I drive manages to open my car doors into poles. I know I have a big car, but having a pole shaped dent the entire height of the door is no easy feat.

Who does this? Inconsiderate bastichs who aren't man enough to do the right thing. Take a little solace it was only done out of stupidity as opposed to sheer meanness. Someone keyed the entire drivers side of my car when it was only two weeks old. And no, I wasn't parked badly. I just didn't look like the people who live in the area of town where I parked.

Sorry to hear about that. It's frustrating to be on the receiving end of a careless jerk's calling card.

To phrase things in a more Zen-like way:
  • It takes all kinds to fill the freeway.
  • Don't love anything that can't love you back. A car is only an inanimate object.
  • Keep your hands off my speakers!!
That last one wasn't Zen-like at all .

People are savages. This is exactly why I park as far away from the entrance as possible. I would end up beating someone.

Yeah, someone backed into my wife's old car while she was at work. No note or anything.

I was IN my car waiting for a spot and the guy pulling out hit me. Not like he could deny it or anything, but still a big hassle. Any chance there are cameras in the area where you think it happened?

It doesn't really matter where you park, stupid people will find a way. I really can't stand most people these days.

Oh, dang - that was YOUR car?!

:D J/K! Sorry that happened to you. Someone did that to my front bumper at work a few years back. I was steaming. I also got a door ding at work - from one of the extremely few times when I parked near anyone. I hate it when I park away from everyone, deal with the extra walk, then walk back out to my car to find some numbnuts decided to park right next to me even though there were free spots all around. Oops, sorry - this isn't about me.

Reminds me of the phrase, "ethics is what you do when no one is looking." It's easy to do the "right" thing when there are witnesses. It's what you do when you can get away with anything that matters - and whoever hit your car took the easy way out. Impossible to say what was going through that persons mind, though. Maybe it was a 16-year-old that was terrified of getting a beating from his/her parents if they found out, so they went home and claimed that someone hit their car and drove off. Who knows.

In Soviet Russia we only do hit and run :D.

On a more serious note, I was driving (a car) in India last summer. While I was making a left turn this motorbiker decides to overtake me, ON THE LEFT SIDE. The turn signal was on, but that was obviously useless. The enivetable side swipes happens, I crap my pants because it looks like he is going to t-bone a parked car. Thankfully, he didn't, but he did not stop either. Left me cursing at him with a big dent on the car's wheel well. Normal traffic in India is worse than Soviet Russia during rush hour.

Ok, on a really serious note, that sucks! I get regular door dings (yup, I adjectiveised it) at work, started parking in the boonies, but it hasn't helped. I swear one of these days I am going to burn down the place :D.

Long ago I left a note on an electrician's car saying I was sorry that I hit it but wanted to pay for the damage. I signed the note 'Bill the Plumber' and wrote that I was on the job in the bathroom area.

The electrician was seen walking around his vehicle looking for damage by the Super who then accompanied the electrician to find Bill the Plumber who told both of them to eff off. He said he didn't know what the hell they were talking about and wasn't paying for anything. :D

Sorry to hear about that, Grant. I'd be quite as well.

I park far away from other cars, if possible. If not, I park beside the nicest cars I can find. My thinking is that if a car is expensive and/or looks like the owner takes good care of it, they'll be careful when opening their doors. When I had my old Ranger, I didn't really worry about it. I was certainly careful when opening my door, but I wasn't to concerned about other people opening theirs. However, now I have a 2011 Frontier Pro-4X and I'm about as paranoid as one can get.:(

Hit and runs are not fun, nor are door dings.

I bought my Yukon from my parents a few years back with absolutely zero door dings in the side of it. Now that I have it at college and park it next to all these kids who don't care about their cars at all, I have all sorts of dings down the side.

One day walking back from class, I got back to my car to find a Grand Prix attached to my hitch. Somehow during parking, she managed to hit my hitch, and continue to drive forward enough to ram my hitch through her grille, and into her radiator. I suggested she put her car in park, and I'll pull my hitch out, but she said we'll call the police instead. The police came and had me pull away anyway. She was trying to get me to pay for damages to her car, too bad Michigan's a no-fault state and she hit a parked car while I was in class. All in all, I got a free hitch out of the situation, cuz she 'scratched' mine according to the police

Sorry to hear that man. I came back to my Mustang once with about a softball sized dent in the bottom of the driver's side door. I reported it to my insurance company and they wanted to process it as collision and not comprehensive since my collision deductible was higher! I had to fight with them for about a week. There even looked like there was a footprint near where the dent was!

I finally got the insurance company to call it comprehensive and got it fixed. I promptly changed insurance companies after that.

I always try to find parking spots that are far away just because people can be such *****, hitting your door and stuff. Also is it just me or does it seem like parking spaces are getting smaller and smaller?

I agree, people often suck.

Sorry to read about this. People sure can suck at times!

Many years ago, (1998 I think) I was leaving a bank. An SUV pulled in next to my 1997 Acura 3.0CL. The door flew open and dented my car. The lady got out and tried to walk right past me like it never happened. Then she tried to say that the dent must have already been there. If I wasn't there to see it, she would have gotten away with it.

I've got an excellent one. I bought a pretty expensive piece of furniture and had it delivered. My car was parked out front and their truck was parked on the street next to it. After the delivery, I hear my alarm go off so I run out there an see their truck pulling away from my car. I figured it was the truck's engine that set it off. The next morning I come out to go to work and find a foot long, straight crease in my bumper and a HOLE in my fender where the crease ended. I immediately call the delivery company and complain and they totally deny it. So I call my insurance company, they tell me to get an estimate. What's the first thing the guy says at the body shop? "Did you get hit by a big truck?" LOL. The damage was up too high for it to be a regular car, this was obvious. The estimate is pretty high since they have to replace both the bumper and fender and blend the whole front end.

My insurance company contacts the delivery company and it turns out, their insurance is with the same company. At this point, my insurance company doesn't say much and they will handle it as a hit and run claim and I will have to pay my deductible. I tell them NO WAY that is going to happen. I KNOW it was the delivery truck that hit me, even though I can't really prove it. Now that they know it is the same insurance company, they don't want to deal with it, because they won't get anything out of it. I literally argued with them for over 6 months before they got tired of it and finally waived my deductible and fixed my car.

The best part? The idiot who backed out of his parking spot and hit me, hit me in the same spot that had been repaired from the above accident just a few months earlier. Fortunately that one was minor and was able to be pulled out by paintless dent removal.

My next door neighbor ran into my car when it was parked on the street one day. When I walked out and saw my car, I was like WTF. Another neighbor told me which neighbor did it. I went and looked at her car and she had a big dent in her bumper and some of my paint on the bumper. I measured the height and it matched up perfectly to the damage on my car.

I knocked on her door and she denied it. I even told her the other neighbor had seen her do it but she still denied it. I almost called the police but I decided to wait until her husband came home and discuss it with him. He came home, I showed him the damage on both cars and he said "yep, she did it, stupid azz women". I got an estimate and he wrote me a check.
