Vibrations in my ears

So i dunno if i'm just not used to bass, but when i watch movies with really low level frequencies, it kinda bothers me. My sister said the same thing. It's not like it's too loud, it just feels like my ear drums are vibrating. Is this ok or not ok?

Your ear drums should vibrate :D

What sub do you have? Is everything EQ'd? Do you take hallucinogenic substances before watching movies? lol

You both could be sensitive to low frequencies. I know a few people who are.

It sounds like a subwoofer phase integration issue. Try playing around aggressively with sub placement to get started.

Does it feel like a strange pressure, similar to going up in a jet? Move to the side, maybe 1'-3' or turn the balance control to one side. If the sensation disappears, check the polarity of the speaker wires at the receiver and speakers.

Excellent info to add to the never ending HT experiments :)

Honestly yeah, it sometimes does feel like i need to 'gulp' to get rid of the built up pressure.

I think i dont run it that hot at all though. Audyssey 2EQ sets it sooooooooo low (like 10db+ too low; you barely hear it with the levels it sets it at). It's not too loud...certainly not as loud as it was with Audyssey Dynamic EQ on (so way less than reference). So maybe I run it kind of hot so that i actually feel it since i listen to my movies with low volume, though it doesnt ever seem to overpower the speakers.

I really have to get an spl meter but I dont want to spend the money right now.

I guess i'm just not used to vibrations at all. :/

corner on a gramma.
Move it around and recalibrate your system.

Sub placement is the biggest culprit to phase error, and phase error tends to cause what you describe "in your ear". HighFigh described things reasonably well earlier, reread his post.
