≠ is part of the extended ascii character set as well as unicode, so theoretically it could be like this, but it's an unsupported syntax in any programming language....

It just doesn't work, see....

select * from einstein
where E ≠ MC2
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 2
Incorrect syntax near '≠'.

It's not according to ansi sql standard
I vote that they change the ansi sql standard and add the "≠" to our keyboards . :D
(It has always been the std in mathamatics)

I agree, it's not logical, the last standard is 'SQL:2008', it may be possible to send a request to ISO about this

As for Java, this can perhaps be changed by sending a request to Oracle...

There's also the same issue with exactly equal (equal sign with 3 lines, cannot get this into the post) .vs. equal =

What's the difference between these two in a programming context....

Do you think they'll consider my request(s)?

Do not have so high hopes.... Iso is a big dinosaur that takes years to complete these processes.... and looking at how long time Oracle used on latest Java release..... hmm.... not so optimistic....
