Sorry Einstein, seems like you were wrong, after all

E != MC2

For all of us studying relativity theory and quantum physics at high school, college, university ++++ the laws of physics are now breaking down as researchers at CERN measures neutrinos traveling at a speed of 305.000 km/s which is faster than speed of light.....

Not sure what may come out of this but they double, triple checked it all and the particles traveled 732 km in 0.0024 seconds which is faster than the speed of light
So for these particles, if we should look to what Einstein writes.... time is going in reverse, so do we have two Universes at the same physical location, one where time is going forward and one where time is going backwards, even more

I'll wait for the second opinion. After all, that's why they released the data - to see if anyone can find a mistake. They arrived 60 billionths of a second faster than expected? Check the reaction time of the guy with the stopwatch. :D

Very cool. They've only begun with the research at CERN. I'm sure they will break through many more conceptions of physics before they are through.

When did they start putting ! after E in that equation? E Factorial? Yikes!

this seems true b/c when the Universe was formed, it scattered too quickly assuming the speed of light was always a constant. Einstein never said the speed of light was fixed shortly after the big bang. Scientists believe there are still pockets in space where the speed of light is much faster than 3.0 x10^8 m/s^2. In theory we could slip a space vehicle through these pockets and go faster than light. So far this hasn't been proven.

In any event, you gotta give Einstein credit. He proposed all of this incredible stuff before we had computers or the resources of today's modern electronics era to figure any of this out. Imagine if he was born today how much he could accomplish?

The beautiful thing about science is its always out to disprove itself. This is how we evolve our understanding of the universe around us. The reality of our universe is more scary and more unbelievable than science fiction when you think about it!

Way too early to throw in the towel on my buddy. ;):D

My question is how did they sync the clocks the accuracy needed? How do they know it was the Hadron neutrinos and not from something else? Why just barely over the light speed and not a whole lot faster?

But, I think much smarter folks are looking at this.

I recently learned about the theoretical inflaton field, which I believe would allow the speed of light to be constant from the start.

Imagine if he was born today how much he could accomplish?
Or not. He'd probably be too busy texting and surfing porn if he was a kid today. :D

I agree Gene. It does however assume that the scientific community is willing to let go of what it had held to be true.

The bartender says "We don't allow your kind in here".

A faster-than-light neutrino walks into a bar.

You know what? I bet Monster is already working hard to develop their first faster-than-light cable, which will be known as the "pole-sitter" though ;)

That would be the best Monster product ever! Well, assuming that it could actually allow you to travel back in time and not buy it in the first place. :D

If there's anyone you can trust with clocks... it's the Swiss... :)
Even the trams in Zürich are synchronized by the microsecond.....
