BDP-95 goes kaput already

Believe what you like. Oppo placed it in writing on the invoice. No room there for any communication error.

My guess is that the replacement unit may have been returned by someone else, though that is only a guess. The 30 day warranty was in writing.
That is pretty disheartening. I purchased one of the 100 or so BDP-95's that were pre-sold in early February, so I know I don't have a lot of warranty left, but it still is scary to me to think one can buy a $1000 product with a one year warranty, and if you are unlucky enough to get an early failure and need it replaced, you get screwed out of the rest of your one year warranty. I'm sorry, but that is completely unacceptable to me in a product that costs $1000.

Typically when a unit is repaired or replaced while in warranty the unit carries the balance of the original warranty. So if the player had a 12 month warranty and failed 8 months into the warranty period you would have 4 months left on the new / repaired unit. Perhaps this was the misunderstanding?

Absolutely not. Do the math. Even if mine was the first one off the assembly line (which it was not) there is no way the original unit would have had only 30 days remaining under the warranty.
