I love superhero movies and have been a fan of the Marvel comics since the 70s, especially the Avengers in their various incarnations... I remember the West Coast Avengers.
Today there are too many Avengers titles but I like the Ultimates when the Ultimate Universe started the artist (Hitch I believe) drew a new Nick Fury as a black man that looked like Samuel L Jackson, I don't know why he chose Jackson, those artists do that sometimes, a Darkhorse artist is drawing this one character to look like Thomas Jane. Anyway... it's interesting that they actually got Jackson to play Fury.
Nick Fury was leader of SHIELD a US govt security team but was originally a white guy, a WWII veteran from the comics Nick Fury and his Howling Commandos that included guys like Dum Dum Dugan who was in the Capt. American movie.
But there is no way that you can have a 21st century SHEILD director that was a WWII vet. It's like maintaining that the Punisher is a Vietnam vet, he would be getting too old. However, there is a Punisher run going on now that uses his advanced years (in his 50s) in the story, it's an interesting take on the Punisher.
But I digress. Long story short... I love that they got Jackson, I don't know if it was planned when they first wrote the Ultimates. Watching that trailer my heart flutters like a schoolboy.
