Velodyne Impact 10 - Cutting In & Out

Hi,
I just bought a Velodyne Impact 10. It sounds great, but I have problem with the auto ON feature. It seems that I don't get enough signal to the sub to turn it on when I whatch low bass programming or movies/shows at low volume. Through a movie the sub can turn on and off several times!!

The sub is connected to a Yamaha RX V-667. I have set all speakers to small and the AVR crossover is set to 200.
The sub cross over is set to 200 and the volume set to half. The sub is connected to the sub with a single subwoofercable. I have also tried to use a y-splitter but with no improvement.

How can I ensure that the sub turns on for all volumes and material being run through the amp??

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sincerely,
Stefan

Turn the sub's level up on the receiver side and down on the sub itself. If auto-calibrated, rerun calibration. What speakers are you using? 200Hz x-over is REALLY high.

Yes i have heard something similar. But i thought it was the other way around. Turn the volume up on the sub & equally down on the receiver. But i could be wrong. Try them both out in case though.

Yes 200 is very high. Unless you are using tiny little satellites then maybe but even then, thats high. What speakers are they?

Back to the sub topic, why use the auto feature if its doing that? Ive owned subs in the past that have done that so i just turn the knob to always be on. Its not like your saving any worthwhile amount of energy by using the standby mode. What i do is have everything on an APC surge protector. Every night as i walk to bed i hit the switch on it to shut off all my gear overnight. Then in the morn i flip it on. I hated the sub on/off/on/off during tv shows so, BOOM, solved!!

Thanks for the input.

My other speakers are Cambridge Soundworks: Front - Ensemble 2, Center - Center Channel 2, Rear - Ensemble 3.

I tried turning up the Sub level in the Amp (max was 10dB) and I lowered the volume on the sub. No improvement as far as the sub turning on/off at low volumes. I also tried the oppsite, amp sub level down and speaker sub volume up, no improvement, if anything it seemed to get worse.

I also lowered the crossover in the amp to what YAPO suggested 80Hz. What should be the setting on the sub. (Range 50-200 Hz).?? I tried several but no improvement.

The Velodyne Impact 10 does not have a switch for ON and OFF, it only has the AUTO ON. So I'm stuck there.

Can you increase the sensitivity of the Velodyne sub or increase the signal strength from the amplifier (Yamaha v667)??
Educational question: Why does the sub turn ON when I increse the volume on the amp?

Thanks for your help.

Definitely NOT this. Subwoofers will cut out when the incoming signal is too weak. You want the incoming signal stronger, therefore the sub's gain should be turned down.

.
If the sub's crossover can't be bypassed, then turn it up all the way as far as it will go (200 Hz). That won't fix your problem, but that's the proper setup if your receiver's crossover is engaged.

What is the sub's volume set at?

Does it do this with all sources or just certain ones? (TV vs BD player, CD, etc...)

I think you're going to need to give Velodyne a call at this point. If raising the level in the receiver didn't fix it, that either means there's a problem with the sub, there's a problem with the receiver's sub pre-out or the receiver's sub pre-out voltage is simply too low.
