Heeey audiophiles, I'm sort of a noob so I've come to this forum for some guidance.

I have a BOSE Series II soundock which I can play music from, from my laptop using an earphone>earphone audio cable.

I want to purchase something to add more bass to my music listening experience. What should I do?
I was thinking I'd buy a subwoofer and a receiver, and connect my laptop to the receiver and then run cables from the receiver to the sub and to my bose sound dock (which would kind of act like the other speakers).
HOWEVER, my brother said he doesn't know if that would work because the bose soundock is like a powered speaker or something / that it is a full unit.

If someone could please give me some advice on if this situation would work / how I could make it work, or an alternative to get more bass... that would be AMAZING.

PS. Whoever's advice works / I get it running, I'll send you 10$ on paypal or as a visa giftcard.
Thanks IN ADVANCE!

/Shahein.

There are very few big brands in the world which I'd never consider or recommend to anyone... bose is one of them...

That said, this idea just might be what you're looking for:
Get This sub:
For only $78.30 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 12 Inch 150 Watt Powered Subwoofer - Light Wood Finish | Subwoofers
Connect your laptop to it using 3.5mm to rca to line-in port.
Set the freq dial somewhere in 100-120Mhz ballpark.
Connect a RCA cable from sub line-out to aux input of your bose docking station (identical cable to above - 3.5mm - rca)

Theoretically this should work, yet I guess no one ever testing this very unusual setup

p.s: If you are missing any cables, get them from monoprice as well.

Bear in mind - This is not the configuration I'd recommend - If you are serious about high quality sound - you should look for completely different, new from ground up solution.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
What is special about this subwoofer? Could I do the same set-up you suggested using any powered subwoofer?
Or is there a special kind?

/Thanks!

Like 250$ish, but I'd rather get something locally so that I don't have to pay 100$ shipping.

But this set-up will work with pretty much any powered subwoofer? (As long as it has "low level line out")?
What is low level line out, exactly?
And how can I make sure the sub I buy has it?

/Thanks again bro.

You look at picture of the product and look at RCA inputs.
If there is only one - it's called LFE or Subwoofer input
Only two - typically that LEFT/RIGHT inputs
You'll need the one with FOUR rca ports - 2 input red&white and 2 red&white rca output
looks here:

Monoprice charges only $30 for shipping which is very reasonable.
You would not find locally $250 better than monoprice's $115, unless you shop used on craigslist

In fact - for $250 - you could do much better - just for sell the bose system
I'm from Canada though, so Monoprice is telling me shipping is 90$ to my postal code... Which brings that 85$ sub to around $175.
=/

So if I get a powered subwoofer with the 2RCA inputs and 2RCA outputs it should work in series with my bose soundock?
Sweet... I'm going to try to find one, and then I'll hook it up and let you know how it works (i'll get you 10$ on paypal if it works out).

Thanks!
