Subwoofer Advice – Matching Brands?

I currently run a pair of KEF Q900’s through a Marantz SR6005 receiver. My use consists of 75% music and 25% HT.

I’m debating where it makes sense to match the KEF’s with a Q400 subwoofer. The other option I looked at was the HSU Research VTF-1. Other suggestions are welcomed.

Basically, want to know if there is a point to match subs with the same manufacture of your main speakers. (besides aesthetics).

Thanks,

Nope, no point. In fact you would be better of with ID brand for subs.
now , regarding HSU VTF-1 it's a decent sub, but - I think your KEF's Q900 deserve something a bit more capable.

How big is your room and what's your budget?

Yes i agree that a better sub be considered. TheVTF-1 is a good sub but a 12" sub is much better. Still look at HSU just look at their larger models. Or perhaps a Rythmik F12. Since your use is mainly music, a sealed sub is good. What i do like about HSU is the variable tuning. That gives you options of running the sub ported during movies & sealed for music. Such a great concept!!!
I love both of my HSU subs & highly recommend them!! There are other great ID brands out there too so do some research. Look at other posts in this subwoofer section for answers.
Your in the right direction & if $400 is your budget then the VTF-1 would be my choice.

Would like to keep under $500.

But please feel free to recommend what you think would best compliment the Q900's.

Room size is 23' x 12' x 8' ceiling height.

Thank you,

Yea, two subs would ideal, but in lack of the budget Epik Legend would be imo best choice
