Hello,

I have Denon 4306 receiver and currently have tower speakers. I am going thru remodel and need to replace speakers with ceiling speakers. It will be used in the family room 13' x 16' (Actually room is 13'x32' with kitchen at one end and family area at the other end). Speakers will be used forTV watching but when wife is not around for loud music listening. My budget is $2000 for four speakers. Following are three choices that I am considering:

Boston Acoustic HSI 470 (Boston Acoustic recommended by friend)
Martin Logan Helo 10
Sonance VP series (recommended by Vaans.com)

Can anyone comment on these or have other suggestions? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I can't personally recommend any of those... anyways, is there any way you can mount drivers inside the walls instead of inside the ceilings? I feel that ceiling mounted speakers just sound "off" because of where the sound is coming from and aimed towards. Installing it in the wall and aiming it towards you instead IMO, will be a more optimal approach.

I also don't think you should bother with four... two good ones, plus a subwoofer, should cut the mustard so to speak. These:

will work well in a ceiling install. 120 degree dispersion pattern.

For in-walls, you can (and probably might want to?) narrow the dispersion a bit, so I recommend these:

instead

If you can jut it out from the wall a bit and aim them to "cross fire" a few feet in front of you, results should be optimal. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good these really are if you set them up properly. It'll also save you some money because I doubt that you will be happy spending $2000 only to all the problems associated with typical ceiling style installs especially with four sources of sound competing for two channels.

You don't "need" to toe them in but it will change the presentation positively.

Either way, both of those are some ::high quality:: speakers. With the money you save, install some subwoofers - it's well worth it. For example

Thank you for the advise. I already have a sub woofer. Yamaha YST-SW 150.
Unfortunately the room layout does not allow for wall mounted or floor mounted speakers. There is no space.

I will look into your recommendation.

Not wall-mounted, in-wall.

And the yamaha won't cut it, after you get high end speakers like the ones I named. You'll need real subwoofers.

I am still looking for the movie theaters, that have in-ceiling speakers.
In ceiling speakers up front for the most part, are distracting - I keep
moving my head, or get annoyed from the sound above. If you really
go in-ceiling, then look at Snell - to save some money.

And the Yamaha will not keep up with good home theater speakers, or
even the Snell. The boomy and burping Yamaha, is weak.

I have been on internet all day and the verdict is no ceiling fan if you can help it. Howver, I have no space for front floor mounted or in-wall speakers. I can go with in-wall left and right speakers. I can also upgrade the subwoofer if necessary. So please advice on front speakers and rear speakers (left and right speakers) for budget of $2,000 and subwoofer for under $500 if necessary to replace the current Yamaha YST-SW 150.

Thank you

I think I have found the perfect solution. I will move my equipment cabinet in the next room and use Harmony 900 to control them. I am remodeling so wiring is not an issue. This will clear up space for the floor mounted front speakers.

Thank you everyone for help.

Good show - check with Rythmik, HSU, SVSound, and Epik - to pick
out a good sub.
