Bit the bullet on the KEF Q900's and 600C.

Any recommendations for a sub(s) in the price range of $1-2k total. I know most everyone will recommend the PB13 Ultra but I'd rather not spend $2k. So I should say more like a $1-1.5k limit.

FOr starters, you don't want one sub, you want two or even THREE.

Contact funkywaves about their now two subs/one amp package deal with acoustic elegance or TC sounds drivers :D

It seems that the 2 best subs are Funkywaves and Rythmik.

I love the Servo-Direct subs from Rythmik. Do some searching:

High Damping means Low Q value = tight accurate bass.

I think the ultimate bass-crazy-earthquake subs are the 18" Funkywaves.

But for super-tight, accurate bass, but with a little less bass output, I think Rythmik is highly recommended.

You can get 2 Rythmik 15" subs for $2k shipped. You get 10% off the total package when you buy 2 or more subs.

I'm quite fascinated with the Q900. The measurements and praise it has received is just amazing.

I will NOT compare the acutal sound quality of Q900 to the $25,000 B&W 800 Diamond.

It would be just ridiculous and unfair to compare a $1,800/pr speakers to a $25,000/pr speakers.

And we know that measurements do not tell us the whole story. Measurements are not everything. But measurements are important none the less.

When John Atkinson measured the B&W 800 Diamond, he never mentioned that they even had "excellent measurements". I got the impression he basically said the 800 Diamond speakers had decent measurements. He said pretty much the same about the $22K Klipsch speakers. The fact is, most speakers regardless of price, do NOT have superb measurements.

So when John Atkinson, chief editor of Stereophile, enthusiastically says that the KEF Q900 has SUPERB MEASUREMENTS, that is in absolute terms and not restricted to just speakers costing $2K. The superb measurement is in comparison to all speakers of all budgets. Thus, it is a tremendous accomplishment by KEF, especially given the price!!!!!

Kal Rubinson of Stereophile says there are no other speakers in the < $2K range that he would rather have than the Q900.

The Home Theater Magazine review also confirms.

AJinFL has personally heard the KEF Q900's drivers, and he also recommends them. I think AJinFL is extremely picky with speakers, just like GranteedEV.:D

Honestly, I would expect the Q900 to just have good measurements. So the fact that it has superb measurements amazes me. That is all.

When I saw HTM reviewed the $400/pr NHT Absolute Zero bookshelf speakers and the listening window was +/- less than 1dB, I was amazed too.

In general I love to see components (speakers, amps, pre-pros, etc.) that have superb measurements.

Of course, HTM does not do all the measurements that Stereophile does. HTM does not measure the polar responses up to 60 degrees, for example, among many other measurements.

Goldenear Tritons

I would suggest the goldenear triton 2 towers, and matching 50C center.

Getting great reviews and I own these. They have high sensitivity and 8ohm rating, so should be able to push with pretty much any amp. Also, each tower has a built in amp and sub. Prob still want a separate sub for real punch in movies though.

I did end up purchasing the KEF Q900's and matching 600C. I have had them for a couple weeks now and have just started to hear a "flutter" sound out of the uni-Q driver on my right main. I emailed/called KEF support about it earlier today so hopefully I will hear back from them sooner than later. Anybody know what could've caused this? It's only at low volumes when there is a bit of bass, and only out of the right main, not the left.
Here's what they look like, taken on my phone so not the best quality. Finally sold my Sony's and BIC's to some other college students

Congrats !

Very nice ! Next step is to do cable management ;)

p.s: Maybe you could re-consider corner placed HT - might not be ideal place to put it

Thanks, I'm not too worried about the cables for now. This is my college apartment, not my lifelong house. No need to look presentable here :).

The KEF rep called me while I didn't have service on my cell, leaving me a message saying he'll send me a new Uni-Q driver so I can replace it myself. Now that's usually not a problem and just a few screws and whatnot, but they seem to be hidden pretty well on these KEF's. Anyone have experience with disassembling of these Q900's? I feel like an idiot trying to find these screws and I'm not about to start trying to pry up stuff that shouldn't be removed.

Got the new Uni-Q driver from KEF in the mail a few days ago, popped the old one out and replaced it with the new one. Sounds much better.

In other news, I just purchased two of these today and shortly after received this email. I was all excited too :(:

"Hi Timothy,

Thank you for your online order! I apologize but Rythmik Audio is
completely out of stock on ALL subwoofers due to an amplifier shortage.
The new shipment is due to arrive at the end of October. I will keep you
posted on the status. We wont bill you until we have the subwoofers back
in stock and ready to go. If you have any question please let me know.

Have a great weekend!"
