I saw the trailer about 3 dozen times, so we went tonight. This is an odd movie, with a long list of A- list celebs, but not much high-zoot acting. In fact, the movie plays out as thought it was written by somebody at CDC. Fortunately, so far, it's not a true story, but it seems like it should be. Soderberg directed it rather dryly, and let the situation provide the high drama. The main characters are all very earnest, dedicated and intelligent, but not much like movie characters...no speeches or self aggrandizing gestures.
Early in my career I spent some time working with communicable diseases (got scared out of that trade) and this movie was like a trip back to then. Tracking down possible contacts, predicting the speed of spread and doing the cold statistics (how many people die from the disease vs how many die from the vaccine) is all depicted fairly well for a movie. Don't go for big cinema drama, but do go to get the sh*t scared out of you. Also, I understand that if you take a test after the movie, you get 1 college credit for introductory epidemiology.
