Why spend so much effort trying to make it boot up so fast? It's not like anyone needs to keep rebooting Windows because of updates or crashes. Oh, wait...

Lets not start another PC vs Mac war... I was just showing interesting next os development.

Its basically same as pc hibernation, but only kernel state is saved, nothing else. This makes hibernation file very tiny and with ssd - incredibly short times.

As for regarding who cares about short boot times? Everyone who ever used ANY consumer electronics - do you want to wait for your TV to show some logo in the middle of screen and wait several minutes each time you turn it on?
Microsoft wants to put it's os in consumer devices - it's been a MS wet dream for long while

It was a joke, my man. :D I've made my thoughts on PCs and Macs quite clear.

As for consumer electronics, I use my MacBook in my entertainment center all of the time, and it takes a couple of seconds to wake up from sleep mode. My PC takes seconds to wake up from sleep mode, too. I rarely shut either one down completely.

It'd be nicer to see a bit more of what the hell booted to the screen...

Certainly excited with the faster boot, curious any other news of release date and if the general Win7 programs will work with it...?

Suspended windows always has/had glitches, especially over time of a zero full reboot.

On my computer Windows 8 boots in 13 seconds within Virtualbox, if it's set to 1GB or 2GB physical memory does not make any difference whatsoever

By the way, I think there is a new slogan:
Why fly with Continental when you can crash with Windows :p

On windows 7 that is... and that's no small feat.

well my Linux box with Core2 Duo (Conroe version) boots in less than 11 seconds with a 7200 RPM hard drive so if I get that i7 with the SSD then it will be less than 5 seconds. oh wait windows booting in 8 seconds I guess that is to be proud of or wait...?:D

The metro interface in my view is very confusing, to say the least

I have, for instance, found no way to start a command prompt with administrator privileges, it is extremely confusing that there is no start menu at all......
