I never mentioned much about my projector after the fiasco with the Optoma HD81LV, which was selling online for ~ $6K brand new.

Long story short, I will never buy another Optoma projector.

But after the bad taste, I bought a BenQ W6000 from amazon, along with the 4 yr extended warranty.:D

So after a year of movie watching, I'm happy to report that it has been performing extremely well.

I think the W6000 has great PQ, color, contrast, blacks, brightness, fan noise, placement, etc.

Reliability seems great (knock on wood:D).

Truly, as with all things, price does not guarantee performance & reliability.

BenQ vs Epson

I am trying to decide between the BenQ W6000 and the Epson 8700HC. My theater is 15'wx20'L with total light control. Projector placement is 15' from the 120" 1.0 gain screen.

My last projector (Optima) was not nearly bright enough. All the reviews recommend the 8700.

Why did you choose the W6000 over everything else?

It's brighter than everything else in best picture mode.:D

As the lamp ages, the brightness will decrease over time. So getting a brighter projector makes more sense to me.:D

The Optoma HD81-LV was a light-canon, and the W6000 is just as bright IMO.

Everything else seems to be 1/2 as bright as the W6000 when fully calibrated in best picture mode.

In best picture mode, the Epson 8700 has 530 Lumens.

In best picture mode, the W6000 has 1039 lumens.

Quote from review:
Turn on Brilliant Color (and use the settings published on the calibration page of this projector review), and now you get a dazzling 1039 lumens! Remember this is still a "best mode."
