Anyone know about construction? How much support am I losing? (TV riser)

Haha, I agree. How many 2" screws along each 14" foot should I screw down? I'm gonna have to buy a bunch of long wood screws. Argh. This speaker and subwoofer stuff has gotten sooo much more expensive than I intended. :(

Seriously, I have no life.
Any suggestions as to which is better though, A or B?

I will be attaching 4 L-brackets, glue, and screws going down. Is that not enough?

If i want the new, revised stand to look like TV riser A, i will have to make it like this:

stands 22" apart (so there is some wiggle room)
factor in the extra 3/4" for each board width so thats 1.5" more
and i guess have about 3" going past each foot on each side=6" more

so about 29.5-30" total for the top, where the feet will be about 22" apart and the TV stand will probably be about 22" wide as well.

How heavy is the TV?
Where is the port on the speaker in the back? How high are the legs?
You don't need a fancy brace back there, a triangle piece with 45 deg sides on each leg will do very well and you can use plywood if you have some at home. Glue and screw the base to the 3/4" edge of the stand connecting the leg and the top on each side, not on the inside surface in the back corner to the stand.
Don't need L brackets with this method.

So I built it and it fits!

I tried taking your advice as much as I could.

I used TV riser B so I wouldn't have to buy more wood, glued the pieces together, screwed three #10 2" screws down vertically on each side, used 4 L-brackets about an 1-1/2" in with 4 #8 3/4" screws in each one. Then, there was a 2-2-1/2" piece that was as long as the entire thing, so I glued it to the back and screwed it in with 6 #10 2" screws. This piece was screwed into the feet and into the top board, and acted as a skirt/brace/lip. The glue was liquid nails.

The damn thing is solid and fits almost perfectly!

Now I just need to figure out how to cover it with a black fabric and figure out where to buy that fabric!

Try partsexpress-they sell speaker parts. They just may have the black fabric you are looking for.

damn, good idea!

As long as the rear port is open and the speaker has room its ok, right? Theres very little clearance on either side (probably like .25" all around) on the front, but speakers dont get hot/need room or anything as long as the face is completely open and exposed, right?

You should have no issues with that piece. It is built very strong.

Glad to see you glued it, not just screwed it, you should have a nice sturdy piece there...

I'm not a huge fan of MDF or particle board....

Yeah i've heard this pretty often. If i had more money I would definitely get way nicer, stronger, real wood. Unfortunately my speaker + subwoofer purchases increased by 10x the original amount.

Ive heard its good to drill the pilot holes and then put a drop of liquid nails/glue in it, and then drill in the screw. Although this pretty much happened anyway, since there was a pretty thick layer of glue over half of the hole (since we drilled through two pieces) when we drilled the screw in.

That strip is wider than 2" ;):D but it gives that strength I was trying to convey with bigger triangles on the two sides.
Now to dress it up.:D You can even put some nice material on top to hang down the sides to cover the particle board. :D

Haha, whoops! :D Its HEIGHT is 2-2-1/2" then.

I shouldve liquid nailed the L-brackets too...oh well though. I have 12 #10 2" wood screws in there...those suckers are pretty big.
