subwoofers....lowest note

I understand that us humans can hear from about 20Hz to around 20kHz and with age high frequency notes become inaudible slowly.

I noticed that some subwoofers like the Rythmik F25 has a frequency response stat defined for 14 - 90 Hz. I also read in some threads discussions of 16Hz & 18Hz. Does this mean that humans can hear lower?

Also I remember when I visit pubs the music gives a heart thumping effect. I presume bass is the reason. This thumping effect is different to one of hearing where we dont feel it. What is it about bass that makes this happen?

we can't hear lower, but we can feel lower.

the pubs bass are usually in the 50hz-120hz range (the chest thumps i believe are in the 110hz area)

Most frequencies below 30hz are not really that audible. But, when they are present you will feel them. Those subwoofers that can go below 20hz will not be audible at those frequencies, but you will feel their presence. That is what a great subwoofer is about. Many larger church and cathedral pipe organs can reach down to about 16hz or a little lower. That is why you feel the bass in going through your body, but you don't hear it. I learned this over the years when I was involved with some church music committees.

+1.

This is generally what I've read on the subject.
