hey guys....when i came into this forum looking for a receiver, you guys suggested that i pick my speakers first then my receiver...and i did that and picked a pair of PSB T6...and am glad i listened to you guys. The T6 is awesome. I still have to fix room acoustics, get the surrounds & center.
I thought I'll pick my sub first. Could you guys suggest an appropriate sub for my needs. I read a few threads where 2 subs were suggested over 1. Not sure if I will go for two. Will think about adding a second one later in a couple of years, I will probably end up sticking to one.

Usage - Movies & Music, 50 - 50
Room size - 12 x 14 x 10
(Have plans to build bigger room in 2-3 years - 20x14x10)

I explored a bit, we have SVS & Velodynes available back here, also Jamo, Monitor Audio, Modern Short among such others. Brands like HSU & Rythmik I will have to import. I was exploring the following models, SVS SB12-NSD, SVS PC12-NSD DSP, HSU VTU 2 MK3 & Rythmik FV12.

What would be a good choice for me considering my room size & usage? Are these overkill, or should I look at better models?

I have a budget of around 500 - 600$. Do you guys think I should increase this, in which case I might buy a little later.

Well since no-one else has stepped in here...

I will also add which is a bit over the price range - the Epik Empire, which Ricci just finished reviewing and measuring, which he seemed to really like for roughly that price range... Albeit a bit overkill for that room, Not at all for your future planned room... good

Most of the subs you listed are good products and you likely will be very happy with your purchase of...

I will add that you really don't need a whole lot of sub in a room that size, and a sealed will be more then adequate...
I had a SVS 12 sealed in my smallish bedroom and it pounded quite well...
In fact it was that sub that took me down the journey into all sealed subs in and around my house....

i read a few threads here discussing ported vs sealed. I understand that sealed is more accurate but require a higher power amp, while a ported one is more powerful but need not be as accurate as the sealed ones with the port tuning frequency usually being the limit.

Among the subs I have listed above, should this be considered or is it a moot point? Should I consider one over another?

A well designed ported sub can be very accurate. The thing to note is that our ears aren't very sensitive at 20hz for example, so as long as the frequency response in room doesn't start to rise, we won't hear any problems created by the port.

If you've got an endless supply of money, then multiple large sealed subs are the only way to get the deepest of the deep subsonics, however.

Should I consider 2 lower priced subs to one of these? Would that make that much of a difference?

It all depends what you're getting.

Three quality subs will probably outperform one high end sub.

But three crappy subs may not outperform one above average sub.

I was reading another thread here...and one post mentioned about matching mains to the sub. What is this, and why shd one match mains to the sub?
