What speakers should I buy for my home theater system as add ons?

I'm thinking about buying these Bose L1® Compact system speakers. http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/speakers/portable_amplification_systems/l1_compact/index.jsp Is this a good buy? I'm looking to spend about $800 and I like the look of the tall and thin speakers.

I will either add them to my home theater system or to my workout room.

Are there better or less expensive speakers that will provide the same sound and the same look?

These are not home speakers.

They are a self-contained amp/equalizer/speaker system made for use as a portable sound reinforcement system for use in professional venues.

Have you listened to this speaker before, and is your room as big as a
coffee house or gym? This speaker does not have a normal disperion
pattern for home theater. To me, the sound quality of this speaker is poor.

We've heard this speakes slightly bigger brother in it's proper element, providing backup for a Jimmy Buffet wannabe at an outdoor cafe, and it performed it's duties quite well.

But, it's not a home theatre where I have no doubt it would suck big time.
